A-trak on Drake's 'IYRTITL. "It reminded me of Mobb Deep’s 'Hell on Earth."

Which songs sound like which songs? What are the similar elements used? Production techniques? Sample sources? Anything?

:dahell: Can you really not hear the similarities between songs like "Energy" or "0-100" and "Extortion?" The tight, 2-second samples that barely sound like music? The crisp snares? The hard, almost boom-bap kicks? The repetition in the damn-near non-existent hooks?

i dislike drake with a passion but even i'm not gonna discredit the production on his album, that shyt was crisp and it's probably the only drake project i'll be fukkin with for a minute

Last thing I was thinking about when I was listening to that Drake album was Hell On Earth. Explain the similarities.
I never thought about mob deep at all. But after thinking about it, and going back to listen to the production of it I can see some similarities in some of the production.
Maybe atrak was just listening to HOE and it was a quick reference to him. I dunno

But I'm just saying, production wise, I can see what he was try a say

The one thing that reminds me of Havoc and RZA is the downtempo/slowed down samples. But as I said their slowed down sample use is more like 36 Mafia or Houston/screw music than east coast shyt. Also Drake's producers tend to use 80s and 90s r&b/new jack samples, which they slow down and add synths to in order to create dark n very melodic beats. Whereas the east coast has largely been dominated by sped up 60s/70s soul samples.

I definitely like Drake's production. It's like mixing 36 Mafia with Timbaland.
