Post on the coli day after day on some easy e at sohh after everyone left
get on a sat phone or RF and start finding other folks in the US...start a settlement in CA in the central valley with all its ready-to-go farmland, throw standards and prejudices in the bushes and start reproducing, rinse and repeat with neighboring countries in North America and hope a new nation of beige people is born
The virus wiped people out more or less instantly. That way, most of the infrastructure is still intact. If it's a gradual grind to near-extinction, riots and panic may have disrupted things too much.
2) I'm aware of the situation that almost everyone is dead.
My first step would be to dig 3 graves in my yard and bury my wife and daughters. Take a brief moment to mourn, but not too long, because there's work to do.
Next up is to fire up a computer and download as much useful information as possible. Instructions on farming, how to recognize dangerous plants, basic medicine, etc... Print out as much as possible. Since I'm a city person with few survival skills, a crash course will be needed. Charge all batteries. Right now, power and internet are still available, but with no one to fix things, they won't be for long.
I live in an area with about half a million people, so after the event, there'll be about 5 left. Chances of finding them are small, even when actively searching. So I'll just assume to have to go at it alone.
Once the work at home is done, I would head out and raid stores. Bottled water, fuel and medicine are essential. Gasoline goes bad after some time, so stocking up too much isn't going to help much, but for now I should get plenty before the gas stations, that all run on electricity, stop working. Food with long shelf life will be important eventually, but considering how few people are left, there's no urgency in hoarding this. Just get enough food to survive right now.
Next up is finding a more permanent place to settle. Somewhere with farmland of course. High on the wishlist is a generator, which will allow me to keep the lights on and make use of the information I downloaded for much longer.
There are a considerable number of homes in the area where I live that are heated by burning wood pellets. So there are wood pellets available in large quantities. This is an efficient way to store fuel, so I'd likely be looking for that.
Once I've found a good place to settle, I'd haul in my stockpiled fuel, water and medicine and start to plan for the long term. Depending on the season, I may have to plant the land immediately or I may have to wait for several more months. I will use my vehicles as much as possible to haul more supplies in until I run out of gas or the gas goes bad. During this period, getting as much food from supermarkets as possible is the goal. I'd also get some spare clothing.
I would have researched water filtration methods, so I can set up a source of clean water using what I collect from nearby rivers and streams. Before the fuel for my car(s) runs out, I would get a good bike or two, so I have some means of transportation that's faster than walking in the years to come.
At this point, my fuel will run out so my transportation will be limited. Food and water should be coming from the land now. While weapons were not a goal in this strategy, if I did find any and consider myself sufficiently defended, I would create a fire as a signaling device to hopefully attract one of the other survivors.
But it's highly unlikely that I would encounter any. I would live out my life on my improvised farm, spending time working the land, riding around on the bike and read books snatched from other homes or bookstores. If I had the time and opportunity, I would've researched and created the most efficient combination of medicine for euthanasia, so that when I run into a medical issue that I can't fix myself, I can turn the lights out for good without too much hassle
It turns out your don't really need to farm at all unless you really want to or you happen to find a fertile female and start trying to repopulate the earth.
The average grocery store serves between 3-5k people. They get partial resupply every day but let's assume the old saw "Cities are 3 days from food riots" is true it only takes 3 days of normal shopping behavior with no resupply to completely empty the place. Then let's assume that 60% of the food is going to spoil, which might be high actually considering that the densest calories are in things like boxed pasta and canned ham and so on.
So that gives us 4000 * 3 * 0.4 / 365 = 13 years of food per store. If you're 1 in 100,000 people who survive in your city that means you should have 25 stores with a combined 325 yrs of food available within reasonable travel distance that nobody else even wants.
Supplement that with a reasonable sized garden for fresh veggies, hit up one of the many local sporting good stores for hunting supplies to supplement with meat from the thousands of animals suddenly running the place and you're set for food for as long as you can hack it.
First things first. Remove the decomposing body of your SO outside and burn it. If you have a home and garden or yard secure your home, its your base for the time being and you don't know what's out there. You need food and water. Arm your self - with tools for breaking into houses. Raid your neighbours homes for anything useful - batteries, medicine, food fuel water, tools, books. Turn your rooms into storerooms and organise everything. You'll need to do this on foot until or unless you can get hold of a decent vehicle with fuel. Fuel storage will be very important so be on the look out for useful containers. Fortunately you've been camping and have a camping gas stove and fuel, and manage to get a couple of large cylinders from the local store, you eating hot food again and you found a couple of generators that provide light and you can play a bit of music - although you're terrified you'll be attacked and robbed, especially at night when it gets real lonely and you haven't seen anyone for days.
Once you've cleared out anything useful from you neighbours, you'll want to try and make contact with others but you don't know anyone with a HAM radio or how to make a transmitting radio. Police radio? Taxi cab radio? Any trucks about with CBs?
Time to start venturing further a field - to the nearest town. You have a 4 wheel drive vehicle - but you have seen the films, you're worried there will be zombies or violent gangs rampaging. You'll need to find a vantage point so you can recon the town from a distance - you do this at night, for a week. You finally pluck up the courage to head into town - hit the pharmacy, food distribution warehouse, tool and camping shops, gun shops, get maps, in and out quickly, no browsing you're paranoid and still in a state of shock about how quickly this has happened.
Get home, relax and start making plans. Where do you want to go? Mountains - pretty safe but cold in Winter which means you'll spend summer and autumn cutting wood for the winter, somewhere hot? Will there be enough water? How are you going to get there? What are you going to take? Do you take a commercial truck with everything you think you need or something smaller and live off your wits - for the first time ever!
It wont happen over night and by the time you realise there's a problem - its going to be too late.
If I got through to the point where I was able to move - I would look for a rural area, lots of woodland (hunting, foraging and fuel) where I could farm veg and keep livestock. You are likely to have decent supplies in the area - seeds, tools etc and have a chance of surviving - a spring would be a huge bonus. If I could I would want to head towards the Mediterranean - long season for crops, good climate, natural springs, good hunting and lots of agriculture already. Either way getting enough supplies to keep you going and finding enough fuel to gather anything together, farming, foraging, hunting, collecting fuel (wood) and keeping sane are going to be tough. That's without getting ill or injuring your self.
