Ok, so here's the bottom line

You CAN'T just throw a Timbo beat behind some vocals, Timbo's beats are landscapes designed to give an artist freedom to move around. Probably the number 1 reason he hasn't put anything out. He's a 'pre-vocal' producer to the fullest.

With that said, here's where it gets confusing as fukk. There's no need for Tim to get salty about the situation, however it's still disrespectful not to include him. BUT, as Drake, how do you say "Hey Tim, Missy, this is my project, here's what I need from ya'll"...awkward as hell! Or as Tim, how do you say "I wanna be involved 100% and have final say over what you as the Executive Producer put out".

In a perfect world, we would have contributions from R. Kelly, Tim/Missy AND Static (RIP) who doesn't get the credit he deserves for some of Aaliyah's best vocal arrangements.

@ the amount of dudes who now check for Aaliyah's average ass music simply because, for whatever reason, Drake is obsessed with her.

I mean sure, a small amount of people would've complained even if it sounded good.
BUT IT DIDN'T SOUND GOOD -- that's the reason that MOST people were disappointed. If they'd brought classics the love would've drowned out the few critics. For example: "Dead Wrong" -- one the few actually dope tracks to come out the mess -- yea some people still can't accept Em being on it, but overwhelmingly it got love.

but the rest sounded noticeably scrapped together randomly, over mediocre production. & Puff let himself go overboard with the Commercialism -- something that Biggie worked hard to keep balanced. Somebody like Justice League & Ross would approach the project with reverence. They'd think like the fans, cause they are that, except with excellent resources, & being reknowned for their beat selection.

it hurts MY soul to hear him flopping & flailing so hard these days. have you heard his "Timbaland Thursdays"??? his atrocious pop rock album with Chris Cornell???? His David Guetta, Katy Perry shyt???? ... Really, that's the shyt that hurts my heart, cause I've actually listened, repeatedly, trying to find the good in his current material, cause I know how fresh & mindblowing he can be. That's not where his heart is anymore.

People thought Diddy would approach Biggie's projects with reverence considering Diddy executive produced both Ready To Die and Life After Death. It was the combination of Diddy and Biggie collaborating as artist and producer keeping things balanced. I think Ross is dope and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League is one of the best production teams out there right now, but that doesn't mean that them helming a Biggie album would be acclaimed or praised upon release. It would definitely catch hate just because Ross is involved. Born Again wasn't a disaster for being over commercialized, when in fact, besides "Notorious" and a few other songs, it's hardly anything commercial on it at all. It was a disaster because of the obvious: the collaboration of Biggie and Diddy wasn't present b/c Biggie was deceased.

As far as Timbaland, his failures and flops are irrelevant. I agree that the Chris Cornell album was terrible and Timbo Thursdays were lackluster, but who's to say that it's the type of quality that he'd deliver to an Aaliyah project? Nobody ever said that he'd be creating new beats to contribute to the project especially since there's music from '96-'01 that he did with Aaliyah that hasn't been heard.

but he could build a Timbo beat around the vocals to match the style and direction of the song.

Just to add. It wouldn't make sense for Timbaland to create a brand new beat for an Aaliyah album, when there is already unreleased Timbo produced Aaliyah material in the vaults. "I Care 4 U" from Aaliyah was from the One In A Million sessions making that song 5 years old. The only difference is that Aaliyah re-recorded her vocals. That shows that Tim/Missy wouldn't just throw some current beats out there if there's no need to.

All yall whiny fukks complained so I assume they dropped it. Pretty disappointing, we could've gotten some classic music out of that.

On the other hand -- Timbaland has redeemed himself like a motherfukker
