Have managed to sit with this album for a minute and I'm really enjoying it. The production takes me back to that vintage TDE sound similar to Reason's album which I love. Soul is in his bag and is more personal than ever on a lot of these songs. Highlights for me are "Do Better", "It Be Like That", "Fallacy", "Gotta Rap" and "No Report Card". Loved the addition of Joey and "Moonshooter" and it was great to hear Q and Kendrick drop in on "FOMF" and "Herbert".

Only songs I don't really like are "Church On The Move" and "Positive Vibes Only" - the production just didn't work to me. This will stay on repeat for a while and sits just slightly below "Control System" to me.

Yea, this album feels like it could’ve come out from TDE in 2011-2013, it feels very black hippy

My favorite moment of the album is the Soulo origin story after the Hollandaise beat switch

Got a cousin in Compton that was making beats
Creating waves with the sound
I took it as a sign, got my book of rhymes
Grabbed the mic and never put it down
Soon as he hit record, I transformed
I was now a god in man form
I was no longer me, but much more
Close my eyes and I swear to God
I see fans in the stands demand an encore
Standing up with they hands up
Henceforth, I stole the show, yo

The moment I open my eyes, I committed

Pun intended, I was sold

Wait for it

Soul!

My Pops Forever RIP
Right? I don’t even :mjcry:

If listeners didn’t catch that out of this album I don’t know what to say. He looks different, sounds different from loosing teeth…I’m just happy he got a second second chance, and I hope he continues to get the help and support he needs.

I feel like Mac’s death really affected a lot of the TDE dudes more than they thought. All dealt with it in their own ways but it seems like a lot changed for them all around then.
Mac Miller's importance to rap should not be understated. He wasn't in TDE but he might as well have been the way that whole crew fukked with him. Makes you wonder if Soul's output woulda been way more prolific had he been around.

Listening to this record I couldn't help but go back and play D.R.U.G.S.

I've heard a few of them say he was basically the 5th member of Black Hippy. Mac was super talented and by all accounts just a good genuine dude.

I would love for Kendrick to get back to this style but it feels like he's moving further away with the Keem influence.

If we know anything about Kendrick at this point its that he’s NOT interested in going backwards.

And with the revelation that he wrote the majority of Melodic Blue, I don’t think its Keem influencing him, seems like Keem is Kendrick’s Ventriloquist doll
