Well since we talking about NY rappers sounding southern you gotta blame Dipset.

During the height of their career they started doing all these southern sounding songs and songs with down south rappers. So if one of the most popular crews from NYC on that southern sh1t alot of dudes followed to stay relevant. Dipset needs the blame as well.

I don't think 50 made south music I think his sound just reached a broader audience and connected with the south. 50 always been a queens dude and repped it

No but dipset was one of the most popular groups from NY since 2000. When you got the Dips making that sound others fpllowed. What really hurt NY was Juelz career he should've been bigger than Wayne right now and that would've paved the way from more ny rappers

Ny has properly represented our style for decades you fukkboi.

Don't forget where this hip hop shyt starts an finishes. NY is going through more of an identity crisis, but all of our young rappers don't sound southern, just a few of these older nikkas trying to reach a broader audience(as the nikka above me stated in 50s case)

Ny has more hits, more plat albums than all of the south combined tho

Exactly, I hate the fact nikkas here got the nerve to say Rocky sucks then Stan the fukk outta future. Like Rocky is levels better than him, maybe on the production side Future has an edge but Rocky truly has everything else. Like I said nikkas don't like him cause he's from NY, same reason they hate 50, Big etc

Don't get me wrong I have criticized Rocky but I think he's good and hasn't scratched the surface yet, just his last album was up and down for me, some joints I loved some I skip. I skip futures whole album tho.

Cam lived down south here and there* and they had set up shop in midwest.
they never hid anything but you knew they were repping Harlem/NY to the fullest.

they kept their ears open and most southern artists came through that were bubbling on street level Dipset introduced them to the East and vice versa..they were hustlers that knew how to move and spread their brand.

...now 50 he had the bicoastal flow.

I know about the dips living on other spots my thing is if you repping nyc why bring our sound up there? The south was on fire down bottom before the dips came down here. I'm no ny hater some of my fav albums come from much I just think the dips played a part in why nyc sound is gone. Y'all talking beats and sound but I don't hear any boom bap or horn music in any of these new ny rappers, so they gotta stop trying to do what we doing and get back to the essence of nyc
