I can't even NAME a Hollywood movie that exemplifies "Black Excellence" without civil rights or slave narratives.

I mean, this is a biopic, not a fiction piece.....they can't all of a sudden change their story, lol.

I could see your point if this was fiction, but they're just telling their story....

The standard for our art must be raised and we can no longer allow Hollywood to dictate to us, what kind box we are successful in, which is only "gangster" films or "slave /civil rights" movies, and they continue this misrepresentation in Hollywood and it's no different then when in the early 1900s they only showed africans as cannibals cooking the civilized or tap dancing c00ns. So I don't want their token award when I know they won't cut a budget for guys like Danny glover who wants to do a movie on dessalines and the Haitian revolution, and when Don Cheadle wants to do a movie about kwame nkrumah. Or they ignore when Denzel does a excellent job playing Patrice luumba or hurricane carter, but give him award for playing a crooked cop. These are the things we need to tell Hollywood to go to hell with.

Like why are posting "blessed" and props because hoe ass Hollywood decides after years of shunning black films and shyttin on black actors and actresses but they going to nominate a gangster film that was well written well directed but let's be real the acting was not mind blowing and we cheesing cause hoe ass Hollywood showing love? Man screw them and they pity awards. This is great but it's sad that the main people hating on the movie are black women.They truly don't wanna see black men win. They wanted the movie to fail and it didnt now they re saying it's being praised to push an agenda . How about it was just a great film? Black women please stop hating and congratulate.

I just think you guys are missing the point. Until we collectively do something to force them to tell the stories we want, or bankroll our OWN stories, we gon hafta work within the damn system. Your entire premise is based on some notion of worrying about what white people think about us instead of what WE are doing to change us. Aint nobody pandering to white establishment by suggesting this movie should be judged by the same standards as any other Hollywood movies on the same scale, get the fukk outta here with that silliness.

Meanwhile, @cornercommission2k12 , while you typin in unnecessarily extra large text n shyt , explain to me what it is exactly that YOU are doing to counter or balance what has been accomplished (even marginally) by this movie? Do YOU have a script out there? Are you prepared to bankroll the type of feature you desire? Do you even plan to lobby sponsors to get the type of financing necessary to do something like that?
