All of this makes it seem worse. It shows she has no self-control because other runners aren't doing the same thing. Calling it instinctual just puts her reaction on par with a wold animal and shows a complete lack of self-control where others have been able to show self-control. She is not the first runner to get jostled while running and she won't be the last but how many do you hear about taking a baton and beating someone in such fashion? That's a poor excuse.I'd say it was more....instinctual than 'intentional'. Either way she goof'd up.
But putting myself in her shoes, I don't think she planned on doing that at all. I don't even think she knew that she did it in the moment.
I think she was so locked in on winning the race that when someone, close enough to hit, passed her up she instinctually just started swinging as a reflex.
In any case, as someone who actually ran track, when you're locked in, your brain is not turned off and you're actually quite cognizant about what you're doing. Especially in relay races, you're being mindful of where you are, what you are doing and all that since each kind of relay has it's own rules. You're not going to wallop someone in the head because you are fully aware that is a stupid thing to do. This was quite intentional, made worse by her weird explanations. We keep trying to make this thing seem less than what it actually is. I don't understand this way of thinking.
