I don't understand why people hold rappers to higher standards when it comes to lyrics.
Any other genre of music you have songwriters and lyrics that don't necessarily reflect the "truth" of what an artist went through. Let it go>>>rap is now mainstream>>>and same rules apply as any other music where songs are written by other people and performed by an artist.
Because rapping is easy especially if someone else is writing it. Singing takes an enormous level of vocal talent that in itself is enjoyable outside of the songwriting. Most of the skill and ability and enjoyment out of rap music is the ability of the rapper to actually songwrite.
What keeps Hip Hop from being karaoke is the fact that the audience demands authenticity. That there are rules in place. That there is a professional code.
One of those is, you write your own shyt.
Another one is that, what you say is somewhat truthful. You can embellish but you can't sit up here and make a whole fantastical life.
So if you grow up with a dad and your whole image is that you are some b*stard and having to struggle with your momma, but then you really had your dad in your life, that is some corny shyt.
Rappers are similar in their craft to comedians. The audience demands authenticity or else, what is the fukking skill that the artist possess that makes them different than some random guy that can read other people's jokes and tell them?
