According to Rollingstone, Madonna is a better songwriter than Marvin Gaye and Isaac Hayes.

People arguing Prince and Michael over Madonna as if BOTH weren't ranked over Madonna on this list. They at least did that right although I probably would've had MJ and Prince higher. They put Prince over MJ, which I agree with even though I personally prefer MJ.

I, for one, welcome our new space overlords.

I give Prince the nod over MJ in the songwriting category.

I disagree with Eminem being on this list. While he has incredible songs like "Stan" and "The Way I Am" and wrote verses on 2001, he still has garbage like "Just Lose It", that song with the sock puppet video and a host of others. I think they had him over Babyface and Tim & Missy.

I didn't see Dream and Tricky Stewart on the list and they should be there.

If my mom didn’t listen to her I wouldn’t really know much outside the 80’s and 90’s hits, I heard on the radio growing up, and…

Her antics kind of overshadowed her artistry. She’s a writer and can play multiple instruments (drums, guitar, piano, etc), and wrote/produced a lot of her own shyt.

She didn't write that song babyface did

They literally do these lists to bring more attention to the publication, for clicks.

And people fall for it every time. Music publications have been on life support forever. This is a new way for them to get people talking about them again. So when people get mad and start complaining about how who is ahead of whoever else on these fake lists, they win because now everyone is emotional over whatever order they put these sh*ts in. No one would be talking about Rolling Stone today without this.

These lists are made by 15-20 dudes who work there and look like Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons. They sit around and come up with sh*t to get people riled up to the point where they have your attention.

Stop falling for the trickery. That's the answer.

Lol at Vybz Kartel, I think you mean Bob Marley
Kartel ran dancehall reggae from 2005 to 2013 + also writing for Bounty, Popcaan, Tommy Lee, damn near everyone in Gaza/Portmore Empire.

Buju Banton should be top 20
Bob top 10 for certain

That ain’t enough for him to be top 3 Dancehalls impact during that time wasn’t as big as Reggaes impact in yesteryears during the 70-90’s

That’s because of the LGBTQ mafia blackballing modern dancehall artists

She didn't write that song babyface did

I know that, I was giving an example of the Madonna songs I knew. I singled this one out because I liked it.

The second paragraph talks about what she accomplished, but it stays ambiguous because I’m not listing a bunch of shyt she wrote or co-wrote.

Bullshyt.

Future generations aren’t stupid. They won’t simply see rolling stone pros without the cons.

For every fluff piece, you’ll see a dozen articles of them glorifying the Boston Marathon bomber on the front cover.

Posting Rolling Stone on here is like posting Mediafakeout

They really put Jay & Big's vapid coke and money rhymes over Issac Hayes, Babyface, Curtis Mayfield, and Marvin Gaye? :mjlol: The only rapper i'd think about putting on this list for song writing is Tupac. The whole damn universe can relate to songs like Dear Mama, Changes, and Keep Ya Head Up.People always say he was a better song writer than he was classic Hip Hop "lyricist", right?Didn't even make the list!

The thing is, future generations see articles like this as history. The guy wrote Lean On Me, Ain't No Sunshine etc, and is nowhere to be found. While 20 white dudes who wrote songs that were last heard of in 1978 are in there.

when an old head wants to school you on something before your time, or a friend wants to put you on to some new shyt, do they bring you an article or bring you the music? these articles serve a similar purpose (in addition to being conversation starters), but at the end of the day i don't think the exclusion of any one person makes their music less accessible. it just shows the biases of the writer, for better or worse.

that said, when we give credence to these lists, we give credence to their meaningfulness. why give them that power? this is the same publication who's founder came under fire for comments about black + female rock stars. the same publication that was being criticized for it's blatant lack of inclusion going all the way back to the 70's.

i would be more upset if a publication, whose music POV i valued, omitted marvin gaye. but i dont personally give a fukk what rolling stone thinks about music.

i would be lying if i said i never checked the mag. overall though? fukk 'em. :yeshrug:
