The film centered around seminal gangster rap group N.W.A. is underway. It was officially confirmed in January, with F. Gary Gray enlisted as the director and movie title revealed to be the same as their debut album, "Straight Outta Compton." Casting also began in January, although we haven't heard anything about who has been tapped for the film until today.

what i really want is like a documentary on ruthless records, like how that welcome to death row documentary was. ruthless got a real interestin' story similar to how death row had because it was really the blueprint for all that came after it. i'd rather see a documentary than a movie honestly

Yella and Dre was both part of the world class wrecking cru and he was one of the founders of the group. Plus Michael Ealy has a good relationship with Cube Vision since they helped him get his big break, and he also hinted at the role in that interview with Taraji
