yeah. My daughter's ballet teacher majored in Dance - I didn't realize how many levels there are to professionally trained dancers. I used to take ballet classes myself when I was younger and my dance instructor was strict and serious as hell with us- Debbie Allen levels of intense, lol. They usually dance internationally for various prominent dance companies, performances workshops, and for different studios. After they "age out", they usually fall back on teaching. You've heard of the Performing Arts Schools - the "Fame" school in New York so I think it's like that but on a college level. I'm sure they still have to take "regular" core classes too, included in their curriculum, not just dance or art courses. I say, let her do her.. She may be the next Misty Copeland..
edit: I looked it up, here's some examples - Dance Major | Dance Program
They do all that and then end up having to be cheerleaders for a pro sports team.

Tragic

A change was needed decades ago.

People only started to go to colleges when Reagan outsourced those high paying factory jobs that only required a high school diploma. He took advantage of the demand by telling college institutions to upcharge high end prices to withhold as many "undesirable peoples" as possible from the remaining good paying jobs left in the soon-to-be service economy where economic disparites will only grow higher and higher.

The job market was doomed when America stopped being a producer nation. The colleges was just a facade for people not to rebel as long as they thought they can get access to good jobs, and even overlooked high tuition rates for the sake of a status label.

Amen.

Its clear as day when you stop and really look at it

Hey Thomas. Do you want to have some fun?

Of all the upper class negroes Harvard admitted, how many of those negroes are Nigerian? :lolbron:
I already know mane, I talked about it in a thread years ago, before this ADOS nonesense.

AA and Black need to be separated because Nigerian and Ghanian success and acceptance rates and the like are clouding our view of AA progress.
I am dating a woman who went to the Ivies (she's Nigerian), the top of their class every year is a Nigerian student.

I'm sure they may actually outnumber us in the school itself.

Man, this story making me feel some type of way. College for many is a scam and not worth the debt they accumulate from going. Student loan debt is a real issue in this country, and I'm kind of disappointed in the lack of attention my people are giving this story. For weeks and longer I've seen my timeline eager to discuss fukkery involving R. Kelly, Jussie and MJ, but it's like they didn't even click on this headline.

This one actually impacts damn near everybody that isn't rich that went to school or who knows friends or family that have.
Stop fronting, this has been the biggest social media story the past week, dominating Twitter, IG and Facebook, as well as all major news outlets.

Either your entire social media circle is full of mouth-breathing morons who don't know what USC is, or you're being disingenuous.

Above the fray.
Been saying this for YEARS.

College education is designed to artificially widen the wage gap.

- Arbitrarily increasing tuition rates that do not coincide with the real world value of the degree you obtain (tuition increases every year, but out of college job salaries sometimes even go down)
- Requiring bachelors degrees for even base level jobs.
- Effectively pricing disadvantageous demographics out of said degrees unless they want to go into massive debt via financial aid
- And viola, the cycle of debt is established
- Some people live on 45-55k a year with their degree that cost over 50k and it will take them decades to pay it off
- Some people miss payments and their credit is lowered
- Missing student loan payments is actually one of the most common reasons why people lose credit
- With lower credit, you have to deal with high interest rates with a vehicle purchase, paying sometimes 10-15% more than others who are not in debt.
- With lower credit, you cannot get pre-approved to buy a home, you rent forever, no equity to pass on to your children.

I'm not just making up a fairy tale, this is real life for many people.
There are many many many people in America whose college degree was a net negative on their financial state.

We always talk about education reform at the lower levels, but we almost NEVER talk about colleges.

A change needs to happen.
Free tuition community college and state university programs are in place across the country, including the NYC metro area. It's not a stretch to say that we can expect the expansion of these types of programs.

My only issue with this is that people tho take this have to compete with people who have skills who can skip this whole thing and become big.

I’m hoping anyone who chooses this major can dance their ass off and just use it for connections.

I'm fairly sure it started in the late-50s with the Space Race, the US wanted to compete with the Soviet Union on a technological basis, so a higher-educated populace was a necessity. Not just that, urbanization allowed for access to more urban higher-education institutions; alongside this the rising counter-culture soon to be emerging saw education as a time for mental expansion. African-Americans in the Great Migration saw it is as an opportunity for a better life even more powerful that moving.

That line is going to become blurred though.

You, ab., and several other AA members here have talked about dating and or marrying Africans and Islanders. People tend to date those with similar academic backgrounds or professions. If the other groups are over represented in colleges (and elite colleges), there is going to be growing population of middle class and up dual-ethnic Black childrenin this country.

When it's time for them to apply to college what box would they check?

And that's an added area of complexity that's already made reparations difficult logistically.
If you're raised without the deficits of the ethnicity, and only the cultural benefits, multi-ethnic would have to become the norm.

Its hilarious though because so many of the upwardly-mobile, stable women I've met in graduate school are almost all Islander or African. Our law school class is legitimately 7/13 are bi racial, 3/13 are Islanders, and only 3/13 are AAs. :mjlol:
