I posted this in the other thread -

The NBA has always been a highlight sport (at least in the modern era), so I don’t see why anyone is taken aback from it being described as such. The very fact this board has primarily talked about a handful of players over the last 10+ years should tell you as such.

80%+ of fans consume the product through highlights and box scores. Only a small minority are watching full games on a nightly basis. And even they watch highlights of games they missed.

Playoffs are essentially the only stage when fans can check in and watch games in their entirety, when the games don’t all overlap and the number of them are drastically reduced.

It’s why hoops discourse is centered around moments during a game rather than a discussion about it as a whole. Did you see that dunk? Did you see x-player hit that turnaround to beat the buzzer? Did you see that full court pass?

Pretending the NBA has been anything but that is being disingenuous.
This dumb ass mulatto mutt stays speaking on how weak the NBA is himself and admits his dumb European bytch ass don't really watch the games but has a panic attack when posters state how weak this shyt is. :mjlol:

Everyone knows he's right. The modern fan isn't tuned into the NBA like me and my peers were 30-35 years ago...even as recent as 20 years ago. We couldn't wait for the season to start, watched as many games as we could, went to a few, talked about the game and players after watching. Those days are over.
The fans 30-35 years ago are the biggest Casuals there are. They’re the same ones who constantly live in the past and don’t want to acknowledge how far the game has come.

The modern fan is more tuned in than in the past, purely due to the accessibility of games, 24/7 news cycle and being able to discuss the game with people from all over the globe. That still doesn’t take away from the fact the NBA is in competition with all the other forms of entertainment, competing for attention that it didn’t otherwise have to do 30-35 years ago. The NBA has always typically been seen as the ugly sister, so trying to pretend it once was revered as some consecrated product is revisionist history. MJ covered up a lot of that stank. If it didn’t become global, it probably would’ve either been swallowed up by another league or become borderline irrelevant.

They just got $77 Billion guarunteed.
Of course he's not worried about a few folks complaining.
NBA is making so much money that they have seem to have punted on expansion which was another guarunteed ~$12 Billion because the current owners down't want to split their share with another 2 teams.
They going to Europe

It's wild. I understand making money for your league but basketball still needs to accessible to the layman. Someone should not have to pay potentially hundreds of dollars to watch their team. Every fan is not a casual some people want to watch the game from start to finish.

unfortunately , it doesn't have to be accessible to the layman. The basic humanities of health-care and housing doesn't need to be accessible to laymen to be viable as commercial commodities. Thats before considering the accessibility of viable education, clean water, and healthy food etc

in theory, they can box themselves out from a broad chunk of the general population and still function as all the other mentioned operations have

...in theory...

It's a bad statement but why are people complaining about streaming prices when 90% of the games have been on cable for decades.
The games were only on 2 networks owned by major players (Disney and Turner) and for decades were bundled into a joint package for cable services.

This new version is broken up onto various platforms which we have to pay for individually and will eventually be offered as a standalone service that will keep going up in price.

My pops was saying back in the 90s that it was only a matter of time before you had to pay to watch the SB. We can clearly see that time is coming. People will adjust just like they did with boxing. Dudes in their 40s and younger dont know a world where the fights came on regular TV.

Some will give up. Some will steal. Many more will pay and the bottomline is they are gonna get their money. We all gotta make the individual choice to stop supporting it when it goes to far.

That model is the pathway to death.
Boxing is dead after this saturday.

He really think this was a good thing to say? :dead: You don’t put on this big ass production just so people can go back and watch highlights on YouTube. :mjlol: Even if that’s what people do you don’t say that as the damn commissioner!!! If that’s the case why not just let these dudes play at parks and let like two people record them with cellphones or Insta360’s and shyt :russ: I can’t believe he really said this
