I think an easier solution is just have 4 divisions overall, 2 big divisions in each conference just like it was before the Bobcats became an expansion team. That way only the top 2 teams in the conference are division winners and the rest of the seedlings are free-for-all.

More teams making the playoffs than missing it diminish the playoffs and regular season

As I said before, the NBA has to make choice

Either 82 game regular season or get rid of the 1st round

It can't be both and expect interest in your sports to grow

NBA has been doing fine with this format though.

I'm with @Brozay though. I dont like the realignment of the best 16 in the league. If you do that then whats the point of conferences? Every tam should then face each other an equal amount of times to make it fair. Too much realignment.

reduce some playoff series 3-5-7-7 or 5--7-7-7 then i might give him props.....waiting on that heel turn cause I know it's coming...put your faith in him if you want to
If he kills off the division winners then theres no point on shorting any of the playoffs cuz its going to be better competition going head to head which means better series and more 6-7 game series

I think people are being shortsighted in terms of how it will diminish the playoff races and the aspects conferences bring (even if they have been diminished somewhat in recent years)

There are still going to be lopsided matchups even if you do the 16 team realignment... I dont think its worth sacrificing conferences(which breed rivalries, even if they have tailed off - but lets see how Hawks/Wiz look next season, or think about how much we would miss Bulls/Cavs and what is building there, or how the Bulls/Bucks might keep escalating, even Boston/CLE if the Celtics develop etc., etc., etc.)

Now instead of having two separate conferences with handfuls of teams in both conferences fighting for 7, 8 seeds, you will have 2-3 teams fighting for 15, 16. It will take away from the regular season even more IMO.

I disagree.

The league's most storied rivalry plays just twice a year and only meets in the playoffs if they both happen to make the finals.

Conferences don't breed rivalries in the NBA, competitive teams do, and dumping conferences increases the pool of competitive teams to rival. It's a superstar league, and it's too bad we never got to see a Kobe-Bron playoff series. Eliminating conferences would increase the chance of superstars meeting in that ultracompetitive environment.

Watch these rich owners complain if they wipe out the conference's

Talking about the traveling from coast to coast is to much....

fukk out of here.. nikkas scared the bucks, Brooklyn and 10 other eastern conference teams won't make the playoffs

Travel is going to have to be considered in these considerations. Conferences will likely still stand but realignment needs to happen.

I don't think travel is the biggest detriment to conference elimination, I think scheduling is.

Can't have nightly double-headers the first two rounds of the playoffs if both games involve west coast teams.

I don't see the reason to NOT have divisions

But interest & growth in the sport has happened with the current alignment in place. I don't see why the divisions need to go away...what competitive balance is the league missing b/c of 6 divisions?
