"We should be celebrating excellence, the league is as aesthetically pleasing as its ever been"

We just had 5 sweeps, and 2 Gentleman's sweeps. That means 7 of the 14 Playoff series were not competitive :pachaha:
This. There's no challenge at all now. Even when the Bulls were dominant in the 90's and them winning was something of a forgone conclusion, they were still challenged and even the other teams beating up each other was entertaining and competitive which is why no one complained about the Bulls being in the Finals so much.

Now, the Warriors and Cavs aren't be challenged at all by anyone, Spurs maybe but that's about it, now if you are fine with 1 or 2 weeks of competitive basketball and several months of staleness then more power to you.

There was more incentive to compete. Not winning a title wasn't viewed the way it is now because we're all trying to write athlete's legacies. Winning the division was viewed as an accomplishment. Making the playoffs was viewed as an achievement. Home court advantage? Damn, you're good. Losing in the semis to a team like Chicago was viewed as a rite of passage, where it's a lump you take but there's room for growth. Now when a team loses in the playoffs we're like "damn they shoulda tanked" We're gonna look back on this season and think maybe 4 teams had a good year: whoever wins the title, Utah, Milwaukee and maybe Washington.

I think it goes 5 Finals in a row of Cle vs GS

Why not?
Co-Sign. They are basically set up to do this, both teams are constructed to breeze through their conferences due to no other teams being stacked like they are, plus they will always be the first destination(s) of players with buyouts or ring chasing so yeah they easily could have a 5-6 year run.

And I hate the argument that there has always been dominant teams, yeah that's true Bulls, Heat, even going back to Lakers and Celtics, but please show me where those teams just breezed through their conference every year?

He's right. Men in their 40s and 50s still talk about that damn Lakers-Celtics rivalry like it was the damn secret to life. What was the Lakers biggest challenge during that run? The Mavs and Rockets? Maybe the Nuggets.:rudy:

I mean, Boston had trouble with Milwaukee and Philly so I'll give them that but they were probably always viewed as the favorite

I'm sure we'll mythologize the Warriors-Cavs in the same vein years from now when some young nikka talks about how the style of basketball during their time is so much better.

Warriors have had some crazy ass luck when it comes to other teams not being at full strength but they play so well together it's insane. Cavs are just better than everyone in the East, mainly because they have the most physically talented basketball player of all-time. What did we expect?

THIS! So much of this. I really want to go into the narratives these sport debate shows have put on athletes because it really has been a sort of gift and curse type of thing with NBA players and clearly them not wanting to be a subject of a 30 for 30 in a bad light plays into it. Still, these debate shows give alot of credit to players that took the "harder road" (see Allen Iverson) but I can't see this being the issue that lead into the NBA being pretty noncompetitive league wide.

I do hate the fact now that titles have become the only defining moments for NBA players, because performing under pressure is no longer viewed as career defining, now it's just getting to alot of Finals.

i still look at GS kind of being on an island by themselves talent wise. i hope the cavs prove me wrong

if this turns out to be a great back and forth series ill definitely appreciate it...... if GS wins easily then there is definitely a problem.
