you are not a woman, you don't pay attention to what is being marketed regarding women.

No, I'm not a woman, but I've lived long enough to know that women that look like Adele are not what's being marketing. If so, all this emphasis on Weight Watchers, Nutri Systems, fat thinners, Lap Band surgery, tummy tucks, women getting surgeries to get thinner waists, etc. All of these magazine covers wouldn't feature women who were thin. They wouldn't just show Adele's face on magazine covers. People wouldn't be outraged that they'd crop Adele's body from a magazine cover, but put the whole body of a skinny woman on it.

When Susan Boyle put up the same numbers, WE still prosper with our music:whoo::patrice::usure:

exactly. The OP just isn't aware the industry has always been this way outside of a portion of the 90's. Most of our black music legends didn't sell shyt when compared to the white musicians. For example

Donny Hathaway

Al Green

now let's compare to a b level/second tier blue eyed soul singer

This isn't a fair comparison though. Al Green, Donnie Hathaway, and Jimi Hendrix were not the contemporaries of that Ed Sheeran looking guy and George Michael. Green, Hathaway, and Hendrix are from a different era and peaked before George Michael and that other guy even put out their first albums. Ed Sheeran before Ed Sheeran (this Simply Red guy) wasn't even major like that in the US. Most of his sales were international.

With that said, Adele's main demographic is women between 28-44. Those broads aren't exactly in Beyonce shape out here :russ:

I count USa and global sells because for both, it's white people who inflate the numbers. If you want a more era specific comparison, I'll cover mainly starting @ 1980

Looking at this list, it's crazy how Luther Vandross's fanbase stayed consistent for 20+ years. Keith and Babyface were pretty consistent too. Bolton and George Michael had higher sales peaks, but didn't quite do as well over time.

A lot of them aren't. I'd go as far as to say most of them aren't. You can't say they aren't hittin' the gym, dieting, or even going to the extreme of trying to get Beyonce's shape though. Beyonce image wise is still bigger than Adele.

...of course there were black people who did monster (dinosaurs of rock type) numbers but they were exceptions to the rule

Think about this. Back in the 80s/90s. Slow jams were the in thing. It was cool to play Jodeci or Whitney Houston. We heard record breaking classics like End of the road, I will always love you, One Sweet Day. But eventually r and b started sounding more like hip hop. It lost it's identity. All of a sudden, the powers that be think we only wanna hear club records. We wanna hear Wayne on every feature. Slow jams are dead. White people see this as their ticket. They took slow jams and took it to new heights. Sam Smith- stay with me. Adele- Hello.
