I thought Hello was nice lyrically, and while I concede the same lyrical depth isn't present on this track, she makes up for it with emotional depth. It's just a little power ballad ditty, and she's singing the hell outta it. The way she says "my god", the duality of hopeful resignation in her voice, she's putting you in the scene. Good music evokes emotions, and sometimes it's not what you're singing but how you're singing it. Adele is capable of touching people, and none of her peers are touching her in that regard. Beyonce the only one in Adele's lane right now tbh.Her voice is truly heavenly!
But my god, both this and Hello is seriously lacking the songwriting quality of good records.
