After reading this, I'm 100% sure KD will be back by Spring 2020 and won't be damaged goods at all

He's looking like he could be game ready by March :mjlit:

He already came out and said he agreed with Brooklyn not to play this year.

That being said the NBA has sorely missed him this year. I find myself skipping out or cutting NBA games off halfway through a lot lately. It doesnt help that Kyrie doesn't like to play basketball either. :francis:

J.J. BAREA, PRIMED FOR BETTER TIMES THIS SUMMER, KNOWS WHAT KEVIN DURANT FACES IN REHAB
JUN 12, 2019 EDDIE SEFKO

DALLAS – It’s a club nobody wants to be a member of.

J.J. Barea cringed when watching Game 5 of the NBA finals and seeing superstar Kevin Durant hopping on his left foot, reaching for his right Achilles and then plopping onto his backside, clearly in pain.

Barea suffered a torn Achilles tendon on Jan. 11. Tuesday marked the five-month mark in his rehabilitation.

The Mavericks’ respected veteran could send all sorts of messages to Durant, who on Monday in Toronto suffered what is believed to be the same injury as Barea. But there is no way to sugarcoat anything about what arguably is the toughest injury to recover from in basketball.

One thing that Barea said Durant can without question expect is a long, arduous and at times boring grind that will not end for Durant until sometime in 2020.

“I’m five months into it,” the 34-year-old guard said. “I’m basically coming in everyday from 9 to 12 in the morning and I do weights, then do court work and then go back to weights. But I’m basically doing it all on the court already. I’m doing pick-and-rolls, floaters, 3-point shots, a little bit of conditioning. I feel great.”

However, the daily rehab is something Barea can’t wait to get past. He no doubt will chat with Durant about rehab. It’s something that players with similar injuries often do. The realistic picture Barea will paint is one of tiny steps at first. Doctors still won’t let him land after full jumps. He’s been jumping up and landing on a raised box for the last few days. That’s a step toward being allowed to fully jump and land without fear of any setbacks after the surgery.

As we can see KD is already jumping fully

With modern medicine, I think this is just another major injury that can be overcome. I think people get Kobe stuck in their head when it comes up but he had some other stuff going on. He actually looked fine during the short amount of time he played in ‘14.

Another good thing in KD’s favor is that the tear wasn’t on his dominant leg.

I think we’ll see 95% KD by start of the ‘21 season.

We've been following it in the Nets thread of course. He was walking around Brooklyn without the crutch not all that long after surgery, then came the pics with him balancing on one leg. The clip before that one a week or two ago he was shooting one legged Dirk fadeaways off the leg.

I thought all along he could come back and play limited minutes before the season ends, the progression just didn't make sense when you look at how Cousins looked like coming back from his. But with the way our season's gone there's no point besides NBA fans getting to see him again.

I know Sherman, Emmanuel Sanders, & Barea have come back mostly the same from theirs but I think KD's will have people looking at the injury different, kinda like AP with ACL tears now.
What do you mean?

ACL injuries were looked as career ending injuries around the time AD tore his. He came back and had a MVP season.

That being said Rose had his right after that IIRC and that perception was still alive. I'd say right around the time Rondo got his ACL tear is when people started to view ACL injuries differently because he didnt miss a beat when he came back.

Same thing happened to meniscus tears. When Wade had his it was looked at as a death knell to his career. Westbrook almost lost an entire year to it. Embiid and Zion made that shyt seem like it was nothing

AP tore his Dec 2011, Rose tore his the following April, before Peterson played another game. Peterson came back the next season, played all 16 and won MVP in his best season. Rondo tore his after this and wanted to bounce back like AP.

Yeah, basketball-wise that's probably where the perception changed. People figured that because basketball required more lateral movement and cutting that it may not be possible to come back as strong until Rondo
