they are/were much more like stage philosophers/political talker than stand up comedians. they say things that make more sense than actually being funny

Dave is 48...when Carlin was at the same stage in his career he was NOT the Carlin most people my age know and love. He was going through creative luls and getting shytted on in the press as other comics (like Sam Kennison) were on the come up. He was NOT dominating the genre and had not crossed over into to god tier "sancity of life" GC til his 60's.

Dave hasn't even had a chance to hit that stride yet.

I don’t think people remember how funny Kinison was man. Dude used to have me crying even as a little kid. I go back and watch his old specials and start crying laughing all over again lol!
