Than we're in agreement. She has classic songs:manny:

What are we arguing about again?:smugbiden:

she has a classic song, imo.

Single Ladies was more about that video, for me.

The truly great artists that have been named in this thread have many classic songs. Many. Beyonce, imo, just has one.

beyonce doesn't really have any classics aside from her destiny's child songs. which still count considering shes the lead singer and face of destiny's child. but she still has a deeper catalog of hits than most artists and stays on the radio year after year. very impressive considering all the singers who came out around the same time as her, britney, christina, brandy, shakira, monica etc have all fallen off for the most part.

Is ice ice baby s classic? Is gucci gucci a classic? Is thift shop a classic?

Yes. It's a 22 year old song and you know who sang it, most of the bars, the hook, and probably what you were doing with your life when you heard it.

Beyonce has classic songs. BUT, you either love her shyt or absolutely hate it. Crazy In Love is gonna always be remembered from her. Single Ladies too. I (and obviously several others here) fukkING hate those songs.

There are songs people make that might not be in your lane but you like them. Her music is polarizing. For example. My sis will forever love Single Ladies, but whenever that song comes on I look for an exit out of the room. They play her shyt to death and you don't care for it anymore.

Whitney Houston
Mariah Carey
Janet Jackson
Sade

All their catalogs are LIGHT YEARS more timeless than what Beyonce has put out.

Even those artists to a degree over time get remembered for a couple of songs here and there. Mariah Carey has 18 #1 singles (just the #1 's I'm not including anything else that didn't get there). How many of them off the top of your head do you instantly remember? She has the longest #1 single ever with One Sweet Day and depending on who you are that might not be the first song that pops up into your head when you think of her classics. Whether we like Beyonce's songs or not, she'll always have Crazy In Love, Single Ladies and maybe Irreplaceable (I say maybe because technically that's her longest #1 single).

Yea but i'm sure people can name 10 certified Classic songs from each artist without even thinking about it cause those 4 artist albums and music are timeless. Beyonce has had some big songs but a lot of her music is way to formula driven. "Who run the world" is the perfect example of the public finally putting her in her place with making generic songs. That song flopped so hard, she thought she could do another Female empowerment song and it would hit #1 and finally the public said "No more".

Look at her LP's, she's dropped 4 LP's, how many of them are Classic albums? Maybe "Dangerously in Love" and that's borderline, everything else wasn't Classic material. This is a debate I've had with someone in the past so when I saw the thread I thought of that debate. Mariah, Whitney, Janet and Sade have 4 Certified CLASSIC albums apiece and we ain't even talking songs.

That's the difference, they made Hits and CLASSICS. This is a great debate for me cause for a long time I've felt people got it wrong when they think just cause a song hit #1 it was Classic. That's not true, all that proves was it was popular at that time. I'm not saying Beyonce music won't be remembered cause it will but it's easy to see her music just doesn't hold up with the Greats that she's put up with.

Britney didn't fall off, the three singles off of her most recent album got spins regularly on Pop stations....

Christina's most recent album was dope, for some reason the lead single didn't take off, and the album flopped, the album version has "Your Body" with a slower beat and its :ohlawd:

It's 2013. Unless you're Adele, you're not making classic ANYTHING. It's just a change in how we hear music. It's so damn disposable that nothing gets valued like that. I agree that her music won't stand up as well, but those same artists are struggling to make hits now.

Janet- bushes
Whitney- :rip: but she didn't have a hit in a minute.
Sade- hit album, but her formula works because less is more with her (so she doesn't need hits to sell records. She's a rare act)
Mariah- back to the bushes.

I hate to say it, but we can have this same discussion with Rihanna and Taylor Swift and we might come to the same conclusion.

Janet - Super Bowl Black Ball why she fell off but she got a #1 Dance Hit recently.

Whitney - Drugs and she died but she did have a solid album before that.

Sade - Her Last album smashed RnB and sold 500k+ it's 1st week and she won a Grammy.

Mariah - Been on the Decline since after "Mimi" smashed the charts in 2005.

Sure none of them are cracking out hits like they did in the 80's and 90's but their Hits songs HOLD UP till this day. That's what they have that Beyonce doesn't. When Janet did the Super Bowl, everyone knew the songs she was performing cause they were timeless. Rihanna is in the same boat as Beyonce, she makes a lot of formula driven Hit songs that won't have much replay value down the line. Rihanna and Beyonce make "Fast Food RnB", sorry I have to keep it real. Also all 4 have a better SINGLES catalog than Beyonce.

mariah has a once in a generation voice. she doesn't really need classics to stand the test of time. bring her out to sing the national anthem or something and people will be like :dj2:

same thing with whitney which was why you couldn't say she fell off even though her most recent hit was in the 80's. until she got on drugs and died that is
