I have nostalgia for the early 00's, because those first 2-3yrs(00-03) were basically an extension of the 90's. But nostalgia for the late 00's? Nah....

Hip Hop decades seem to pivot on the year ending in 3

Began roughly 73

Run DMC around 83

Wu, Chronic, etc around 93

Classic Hip Hop ends around 2003

I literally stopped paying attention to new music after that, but I'm pretty certain 2013 was a pivot point

2013 was When Future and Young Thug started to get national attention. Looked how that turned out for Hip Hop......

Its just a generational thing. Just like we thought some shyt was cool back then, they think the same about whatever they had.

They cant claim DCOM though :camby:All of their shyt looks overproduced and cheap. Back when DCOM started most of their movies felt and looked like a real movie release.

Disney Channel today wouldnt even think about making movies that express culture or tackle social issues like Gotta Kick It Up! Tru Confessions, or The Color of Friendship.

I consider "real" Hip Hop as a historical fact. 1973 - 2003. I call it Classic Hip Hop

This new stuff isn't really the same genre (think Classic R n B vs Contemporary R n B)

So I call the new shyt Contemporary Rap (can't even refer to it as Hip Hop propper)

This is a good point. I say the modern era(2010's) started roughly around 2012/2013. But I distinctly remember the "sound" starting to change when Lil B and ASAP Rocky came out. Cant forget Drakes 2009 album also basically being the preview of the 2010's. Then Kendrick dropped GKMC in 2012 and it felt like things were really changing. Funture also dropped Turn Out The Lights in 2012, I heard Rich Homie for the 1st time in late 2013, I heard Young Thug in summer 13(I think), Migos dropped Versace in 2013, after all that it was clear we were entering a new era and the TI's, Kanye's, Wayne's, 50's, etc were becoming the old guard. The 2010's officially arrived.

May of been the "downfall into shyt" era for you :flabbynsick: brehs.

But for them, it was their formative years.

Older heads would say the same about the late 90s/early 00s
Even older heads would say the same about the early-mid 90s

So on and so forth. Such is life.

This.

Its ASTONOSHING how many people fail to realize this.

EVERY GENERATION SAYS THE NEW ONE SUCKS AND THE OLD WAS BETTER.

Man, stop crying so goddamned much.

I'm a 70's baby. My childhood was MUCH different, but I wouldn't refer to it as a 'downfall into shyt' or anything condescending.

It was what it was.

In fact, I'm grateful I made it this far to see some of the things we were promised when I was a kid.

Y'all will, too.......if you just stop crying about what you don't have.

Nah.

Im an early 90s baby but even as a kid I had an appreciation for the older generations. 70s stuff looked:mj:

80s movies and tv that my big bros put me on was fire. Ninja turtles might as well had dropped the same day as the power rangers movie. I never heard anyone my age shyt on the 80s. We liked ghostbusters and back to the future too. Nobody was shytting on lethal weapon or rambo

shyt just fell off, stop babying them. most of the shyt in the picture was put out by companies falling off and living off their reputations they built in the golden eras at that time

I actually like the early 2010s because modern technology was available (my phone in 2012 is hardly different from what's on the market now) but it didn't feel like we were too far into the future like how I'm starting to feel. In the first half of the 2010s I was still able to do shyt like go to FYE. Not as many old school musicians had passed away yet.

What does you liking the 70s have to do with older heads shytting on your generation?
