All over tv and radio... don't know what the album name is or what it sold.

I’ve heard of them but swear to God never heard any of their music till today. Also didn’t help that I was living in Germany during f this timeframe so I missed out on a LOT of videos. Unless you were red hot, we didn’t see your video on German television. They’d play the songs tho. There are videos I’m just seeing in 2025 that are old enough to drink if they were human.

Aka name hit songs during the ring tone era
I never bought music like this but I think back in the day they sold individual singles
Makes me wonder if this scenario is less harmful for “album sales” today since a single song being streamed millions of times counts towards the album stats

Above the fray.
I was at a Mos Def/Kweli concert in San Francisco in 2005 :flabbynsick:

Pharoahe was there as well, and that got me really excited. I thought the crowd would go crazy over "Simon Says" and "Oh No." They got into it during "Oh No," but I was seemingly the only one who gave a fukk about "Simon Says" ...:mjcry:

That crowd (rawkus/ phat beats) were heavy into us and them way of thinking. They might have gotten offended that the song was a mainstream rap hit. They might see it as a sellout song.

That could be the case with some crowds in some places.

However, I did not get that vibe from the crowd at that San Francisco concert. They seemed to be a more "mainstream" crowd, and it seemed like they did not know very much about Pharoahe Monche. The impression I got was that "Simon Says" was not much of a hit on the West Coast (I don't remember it getting much radio play), and the crowd was not that familiar with the song. I think the crowd reacted much more favorably to "Oh No" because it WAS a big hit on the West, and it had bigger names (Mos Def and Nate Dog, even though Nate wasn't there).

Throw Some D’s should’ve propelled this nikka into stardom, instead he fell into obscurity :francis:
This album has amazing production but his accent was just too strong

Mims really isn't a one hit wonder, move and like this also went gold. His second album was actually pretty good but he pigeon holed himself with the nursery rhyme singles
