Do you consider these songs "drumless?" I find the term a bit ambiguous because quite a few rap songs that lack drum kicks still use snares.

Yes but it wasn't an issue then because it was used sparingly.

It's kinda like....steak (drums) are the main course. Macaroni, baked potatoes, etc. (drumless tracks) are the side dishes.

Now there's a whole album, 50% albums of baked potatoes.

The dumb are mostly intrigued by the drum…

That song had a drum.

The drumless track thing is most a niche market that you basically have to fall down a rabbit whole to hear a lot of, and you won’t even hear a lot of that unless you’re actively searching for it. Meanwhile, the general trap sound has been mainstream and practically unavoidable since probably 2014-2015, and honestly probably years before when people were forcing Lex Luger to make the same tracks over and over again. How about making threads about that :mjlol:

Are there actually any rap albums with no drums on them?

I didn't even notice that the Earl record was half drumless, so its not an issue for me. Generally I don't make beats without drums though, unless the track just sounds natural that way.

I'm mad ALC even entertained this shyt, there's few to a handful of prod. that can fukk with him when he does use drums, and most of these "fans" were born in 2012 so fuk em

No respect lost for ALC and his talent but also I'm glad Madlib and the Great DOOM stood tall in the shadows and sky

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
I kinda hate drumless rap songs, with few exceptions.

Drums have always been a part of hip-hop. From beating on the lunch table. Cats wasn't making weird ass ambient sounds and shyt like "ok, go in".

Fred.
All That I Got Is You >>>> most hip hop songs. Point I’m making is music ain’t “supposed” to be one way. There’s room for all of it and if the emcee is good enough the song will be elite regardless.

Boldy, 38 Spesh, Curren$y etc etc have all rapped over drumless beats at one point or another. None of them are from the east coast. Larry June as well. Who’s a west coast artist. Jay Worthy as well. Whom has a whole album produced by Roc Marci.

Drumless joints aren't exactly my favorite, but I don't mind them.

I think the complaints about drumless beats are over exaggerated and mostly unwarranted. People like to pretend that Alchemist stopped using drums a decade ago for some reason. At the same time, some artists just don't know how to rock them. Nicholas Craven sucks, Earl's style is boring as shyt now and lack of drums only make it worse. Vince Staples or Boldy James will kill any beat though.

And as much praise as I see him getting, Nicholas Craven is kind of trash.
