I got no issue with drumless shyt, and Alch does it better than most. A lot of it really depends on the rapper though. If you're hitting the pockets and weaving in and out properly, those beats sound great. If you're just doing nothing on the beat the entire thing sounds like a lazy waste.

The thing that concerns me is that we're a decade plus into this and we aren't seeing much of any innovation from the prominent producers on this wave. I'm not counting Alch since he's a legend and his shyt is always technical. But like...can you tell the difference between a 2017 Nicholas Craven beat and a 2023 Nicholas Craven beat?

I explained what I mean:

What is this goofy motherfukker talking about? :gucci:

I made beats like 20 years ago, with drums. I've posted them on here. I never rapped about crop circles. I've posted my pics and the exact block Im from....I have no idea who you are.

As far as the rest of your post, REMOVING something is reductive. Drum breaks were the first element of production because rappers just needed a drum to rap over. It's the corner stone of rap production. Experimenting is cool, a whole subgenre where fans are asking "where's the drums?" to the point where Alc has to address it, is obviously too much.

Fred.
I feel like Alc does it all tho. And people exaggerate the no drums shyt. Like. Depending on the artist it can bring a cinematic flair to an album. On some movie score shyt. Cats like Nicolas Craven get on my nerves with it tho cause he doesn’t do shyt but loop. Cats like Al and Roc actually flip shyt and piece it together. There’s actually care. Technique and skill involved with their shyt.

The funny thing is Al is one of the less egregious people with it, so I don't even know why he personally addressed it.

As far as the rest of your post....it's not even that drumless beats are bad, it's that there's very few examples IMO where the sample is better with no drums.

And I see people mentioning trap....drumless beats are to the under ground what trap is to mainstream. Cool at first but people are starting to OD with it.

I agree. It’s only a select few who do it right.

Most of that no drum shyt is so weak. Dreamy snoozy time ass beats. I fukk with V don and Alc heavy but I can’t listen to them nighty night beats. Roc Marc tends to those beats justice because he has good lyrics and personality to add what those beats lack.

Considering drumless been a thing since like 96-2000, and really 2008 the least, with jay elect doing that shyt heavy, i find rhe fonstant discussion of it tiring. some things work better the rawer it is. Good drums always welcomed but Ive never cared about this shyt like somenof yall.

Its pure sound design choice. Tho i prefer lighter drums like rza do on the sun and all that i got is you, having them isnt a requirment at all.
