If it's Tyson with Gus, then yes Tyson beats Ali. If no Gus Ali works him

Cus died when Tyson was just a young contender with only about a dozen pro fights. He peaked a couple years later.

A better one is prime Tyson vs. prime Joe Frazier....

I think that’s a horrible matchup style-wise for Joe. Frazier was vulnerable in the early going, and somewhat susceptible to uppercuts (like many shorter come-forward fighters). Those are horrible weaknesses to have against a prime Mike Tyson.

Granted, Tyson is not tall and rangy like Foreman was, but I think it’s a similar result.

I don’t favor Tyson over Ali though. I think he gives Ali issues early on but eventually Ali would take over.

Ali beat Foreman and Earnie Shavers, I think he could deal with Tyson's power and get the late round win.

younguns think tyson was the first knock out artist in heavyweight division

Ali. Tyson struggled with tall fighters, and Mike has never fought anyone on Ali’s level. On the flip side, Ali has taken punches from hard punchers like Frazier, Foreman and Shavers and never got knocked out.
None of the had Tyson's speed though...

For the longest I was of the mindset that young Tyson would beat Ali. But I've been watching more Ali of late and I just don't think Tyson would've stood a chance. Ali's quick feet, amazing ability to keep distance, great footwork, ring generalship, and just intelligence in the ring would've been too much for Mike. Ali fought Liston with his hands down pretty much the whole fight with Liston's crazy reach. I think Ali would've just fought Tyson at a distance frustrating him and would just keep picking Mike off with jabs and straight rights while dancing away. Mike even at his best struggled most with taller guys who could use their height and a jab while tying him up on the inside. Guys with nowhere near the skill of an Ali.

Ehh...Ali is better but of course styles make fights, who's the closest thing to a prime Mike Tyson Ali fought?

He ain't Liston and he ain't exactly Frazier either, but you have similar height and power, with Mike being faster, better on defense and could rock you with both hands.

:francis:

In any of these scenarios, Mike is toast unless he drops him by round 3. But considering the type of fighters Ali had trouble with, Mike's style would make it so that he had a good chance to do just that.
Joe Frazier could rock you with either hand. Not as quick as Mike but just as savage, and probably a whole lot tougher.
