Could have fed, clothed and housed the homeless. Could have fixed a broken healthcare system. Could have properly educated a bunch of people and given them a better chance at gainful employment. Could have done a lot of things with that money, including not killed countless innocent people.

There is no real money to be made in feeding, clothing, and housing the homeless, or fixing the healthcare system, etc... on the contrary, the war profiteers ate well off the wars.
These things happen when you have an economy that runs on private profit instead of human need.
