Didn’t hate this series but didn’t live up to its potential either. I do think they did an excellent job with the xenomorph. They manage to make it look just as creepy and menacing as ever. Even in the sunlight. I don’t think we’ve ever seen them before in the bright daylight like that. I see a lot of people like the Pixar oculus alien but this series is a bit too bloated with all these other aliens imo.

Boy genius should have had a fail safe against the hybrids instead of just fukking around in the compound.
Exactly.
The whole damn series I've been thinking "the way they're acting, there's gotta be a fail safe and that'll prove his genius".

But no. Dude is just "eccentric" and everyone important has extra thick plot armor.

I don't think that's what I said. If I said that, my bad.

I'd never expect everything to be wrapped up. I don't expect it to be like a movie where everything gets finished. You gotta dangle some threads at the end of every season, and leave open plot points and interesting directions for them to go in the next season.

But you should cover some bases and at bring major story arcs and plot threads to a plausible level to where if it got cancelled, people won't be super frustrated.

It feels like a ton of stuff literally went nowhere. I feel like the best shows feel like "this character decision led to this, which led to this, which led to this, etc." Other shows with less good writing feel more like "this happened. And then this happened. And then this happened, etc."

I mean the main story was essentially the journey about the kids coming to an understanding of what they now are after being put into robot bodies and then being manipulated by the adults which leads to a rebellion against the company/adults which they win.

Technically that story was resolved.

But I get the complaints, for me once I saw the short episode run time, and remembered the show is trying to be a robot Peter Pan & the lost boys/lord of the flies I knew it would end they way it did in some way and be anticlimactic. I’ve just watched way too much TV :yeshrug:

This was a case where they could have used 10 episodes opposed to 8. I didn’t hate the finale but some stuff seemed rushed. I’m not mad at Wendy controlling the Xenomorph cause that was kind of earned, but being able to control all the screens and videos needed a lil more backstory because was she able to do that the whole time? I’m still unclear on what Kirsch intentions were. But I did like how they flipped the script on the humans and people who were trying to control them. But when it was at the end and music started playing I had to check to see how much time was left because it was a bit anticlimactic but it made for a smooth setup for season 2. Overall I enjoyed the show and won’t be too critical of it because I didn’t have crazy high expectations for it

Wendy being able to hack into the network was established earlier in season

She had been spying on her brother and I believe she tried to reach out to him when he thought she was dead

Good first season

Some holes inconsistencies

Why didn't the eye escape sooner through the feeding door?

Nothing too major

BTW I also don't know how the eye monster can infect a dead and decaying host. Doesn't it need to have an active brain/neurons to "hijack". If it's just dead tissue, what is there to hijack and take over?

That also made zero sense within the shows internal logic. The eye monster is a parasite, and parasites don't take on to dead things. Parasites need living hosts to survive.

Hacking into the network is one thing, but she was just literally controlling everything on the island. Why would anyone put a child into a machine that had that level of god-like power without some kind of failsafe in place?

Also just realize that Wendy was doing her alien noises and stuff and somehow the alien could hear her when it wasn't even close by? Like, she was making alien noises from inside her prison cell, and the alien was outside and could hear her. That was super confusing.

they're gonna have to sure up the writing next season. last episode had it's moments, but the ending was mid
I'm not even sure we'll get a season 2. Apparently FX had until Sept 1st to let the studio in Thailand know about a season 2 or not in order to keep the sets up and not have to rebuild them again down the road, and they didn't let them know and the sets have been used for something else now.

Obviously, that doesn't mean they can't rebuild them again, but it does mean it'll be more expensive, and as of Sept 1st, FX was clearly unsure about whether or not they want to continue this thing. This was a very expensive TV show and I heard (I haven't actually looked into it to find sources) that ratings dipped as it went on. But I did hear it debuted to strong numbers and the first couple eps did have very strong reviews.

I hope it continues because I love Alien/s, but we'll see.

I mean it never said one way or the other so it didn’t contradict anything.

We’ve never seen it speak even in a living host so it’s like like neurons or brain function matter

But I think the point of showing the crabs on Arthur’s body was to show the eye is like a crab finding a shell than a parasite

I love Noah Hawley's work on Fargo. This show had its moments, (prequel episode specifically) but this finale was garbage. I was under the assumption this would've been a one and done.
