Wanting to get in the PC gaming..but I like controllers...So I can get the i5 version with 8gb ram and 1tb hd for under 500...Should I cop for 475?:patrice:
Negative. Any PC can use controllers via USB or with a wireless adapter. The Alpha isn't worth the money simply because it can't use anything outside of a mobile processor to it's full abilities and because the graphics card isn't upgradable.

it's a pretty good deal. it would be hard to build something similar for that price, and it definitely wouldn't be that small
Is the CPU in a socket 1150 or soldered on?

If it's socketed... Sell the i3 for a cool $100 and upgrade it to the i5 4430 for about $80 premium.

Then upgrade the ram to 8 or 16GB for about a $550 total pc...Not bad.

Knowing me I'll gut the whole thing anyway. I would stick an ssd in there as well.

Also, where is the DVD drive? :camby:

Over There...
Why are these idiots still selling gaming pcs that aren't upgrade-able?
Owners can upgrade almost all of the Alpha’s hardware. Players can boost the RAM to 16 GB if they want to, and they can swap in new hard drives and CPUs as well, provided they work within the console’s small confines. Azor said that these upgrades would not void the Alpha’s warranty.

What about the graphics card? Anything without an upgradeable graphics card isn't worth copping. Upgrading a hard drive is what a console can do already.

That thing doesn't have the power supply to feed a full blown desktop processor properly. You can put a better CPU in there but you won't get the performance its capable of from the Alpha.

Not only is that graphics card not a retail unit (meaning it has custom drivers that don't always come out promptly) but its not upgradable.

Its just a bad idea to get an Alpha for gaming. If you're gonna spend a few hundred you're better off making something that can be upgraded even if it does require a larger case.

that's a killer.

Brehs, don't be taken in by these "retail" computer builds. You might as well be copping a PS4 or an XB1. Just build a PC yourself. If you've built a lego castle you're ready. I'm not joking. Everything has slots that just fit the parts, there's no real guess work, especially with online guides.
