Certain disciplines maybe like CS since everyone is on that wave, but as someone else said, STEM is unappealing to many because of the coursework. There are many people who start out as STEM majors and switch no later than year 2. Plus, most of the STEM programs I know of try to keep the faculty:student ratio below a certain level.

college is BS, I taught my self a new marketable skill from watching you-tube videos and reading forums with pros in the field...unless u wanna go into STEM, college is a scam....u can hustle your skills so many ways...and even if your not making that much, u can learn multiple skills and nickle and dime and that money adds up....and eventually once your name is hot, u can charge the industry standard price

when my parents immigrated to canada, their only goal was survival. then they had kids and their goal was to pay the bills and raise us. work was just a means to an end.

a lot of kids nowadays (upper middle class) are in the position where they don't really have to worry about paying bills because of parents so it kinda throws you in a loop about what life's really about.

i'm a stem major because the job prospects are good but i fukking hate it. i don't wake up and look forward to learning this shyt. only thing keeping me going is tests i can't fail. parents said i have to get a professional degree as a safety net but legit am not enjoying a single second of it. i have friends who majored in creative passions like graphic design and photography but they can't even find employment because those markets are so saturated. you can't win.

then i have 40 years of working long ass weeks as an investment banker (if i'm even lucky to break into the field) just to cop a big house, a nice car, and nice clothes. tbh won't even be at the house most of the time cuz of work and the job is boring and stressful as shyt. and i'll only get 2 vacation weeks a year for the first few years. 2015 is so depressing.
