If Kenny Omega doesn't sign with AEW, does that immediately make it hard to take seriously as a competitor?

Maybe not, but it definitely starts to raise some questions.

If the whole goal of this is these guys wanting to create their own place to work with creative freedom and get paid, and they can't get their own homie to sign up after he was telling the same story.....

If I were a wrestler, I'd wonder just how good the money is supposed to be, and just how much creative leeway I'd get.

I think Omega should (and I want to see) re-sign with NJPW and work out a limited date/pay per appearance with AEW. AEW isn't going to be anything more than a TV show & Fite.TV streams more than likely (and none of that looks to be starting up until the fall at the earliest), so having Omega signed exclusively when he isn't involved/invested in running or booking the company isn't really necessary.

It'll be a really bad look for AEW and The Elite if they can't even sign one of their best friends.

Omega is just looking for a bigger paycheck. The only reason he's openly flirting with WWE is so that Khan dude will offer him a bigger contract. He could've signed to AEW off the bat but if he can get WWE to put a ridiculous offer on the table (as they supposedly have), then he can take that and ask for an better offer from AEW. And Cody and the Bucks will tell Khan they need him so he will get it. I guarentee that's the game Omega is playing.
