People in here bullshytting. Networking got me into places I had NO business being in. It isn't kissing ass so much as aligning your talents with people who can do favors for you,
with the understanding that you may or may not need to do favors for them in the meanwhile.

If you just talking to people and hoping for opportunities, thats just plain schmoozing, which is chatty patty shyt. Having people who like you and will give you recommendations
is ESSENTIAL , unless you are happy being unemployed or being paid $9 or less to deal with ignorant ass customers for 40 hours a week, or worse, 15 hours when they cut
your workload.

If you aren't running your own shyt or a stellar person in your field, writing off networking is a loser thing. People don't want to work with quiet folks who look disinterested all the
fukking time.

You aren't networking if you have to pretend. Networking is building genuine relationships with people who can put faith in you for the future.
Heh, sure breh. You really believe you would have talk to those people if you didn't need them to help your career? Sure :sas2:

Exactly, I never said it wasn't effective. But I'm certain that if people didn't have to network they wouldn't. If they were judged on their skill and knowledge alone they would come in, do the work, and go home.

Yeah OP, when you get past a certain level, networking is the ultimate expression of Cac privilege in this country, but its essential in alot of environments. Even mixing up between the races, you're liable to learn something/find common ground with someone. Its defo possible to find allies with other races. Esp if you're a chill, easily-relatable cat who's good at what he does.
It's what keeps the rich, richer, and poor, poorer as well.
