and how many artists are on there???

you not adding this up right... ok so they got 250 million dollars right??

subtract what it costs to run the business (employees, offices, servers, etc etc)

then subtract what they have to pay the labels to get the rights to these songs and artists and albums

then they gotta make a profit

really think how many songs are on there.. how many artists there are.. it ain't just rap... its rap, r&b, rock, country, blues, jazz, heavy metal, music from the 10s,00s,90s,80s,70s,60s,50s... every artist with a different label.. every artist having a different deal.. some artists having multiple labels.. some alive.. some dead..

if you EVER believe these artists are gonna get a GOOD rate, on someone streaming them from a playlist, y'all tripping

oh and by the way... taylor swift just dropped a music app!!! wasn't about no damn spotify.. it was about her saying, i can generate more money having my own exclusive app.. and her doing that.. ain't nobody downloading no aloe black app, nor is his album selling.. he should be thanking god for 168 million times being played cause it damn sure didn't equal out to anyone buying the album or knowing anything about it

Damn that's a smart move on Taylor's part

oh so your saying just be thankful for the exposure. ...and don't worry about those payouts and your not seeing as well that AD REVENUE you missing out on every time your songs play

fukk dat :camby:

if former UNIVERSAL RECORDS ceo DOUG MORRIS felt entitled to it..then why can't the ARTISTS such as Aloe and the plethora of Indy artists out there :manny:
AD revenue? Would an artist get ad revues when their song is payed on the radio? How about licensed for use on a network show? Stop it...

Funny how yall was so on Aloe Blaccs side, now you shytting on Tidal just cuz Hov is part of it:sas2:

How about these artist have they label take that payola money they gave to radio stations to play they horrible records over and over, and give it to them instead:sas1:...We supposed to feel sorry for yall when yalls labels force your songs to get played 15 times a day, while NOT giving other artist a fair chance to be heard and share they talent and make money AT ALL? What about those artist who want to share they talent with the world?oh we aint worried about them, lets just worry about the ones who already made it in,and cheated in order to get in,and will continue to cheat in order to stay in and keep that spot:mjlol:

Artist that already made it arguing about fairness to artist is a little comical....Im not blaming them because they probably don't know or care whats going on behind the scenes in order to make them hot and keep them hot....But lets just say its not exactly fair to "the artist" either as you claim to care so much about....So so what if you getting robbed a little bit, some of you lucky average mafukas just need to be greatful the people fell for the manufactured push you got,and milk it the best way you know how.

The fact that artist don't work out deals with brands is mind boggling. If I had the talent all my music would be free and I'd workout deals to incorporate brand mentions in my music.

I'd be like Jon Chen give me $50,000 and I'll put blackberry in a few of my rhymes in a classy way to increase your sales. Artist gotta be the ad vehicles imo.

There's a lot of ad space on an album & artist always shoutout stuff for free as in talking about cars they drive...why not get Mercedes and BMW to pay for it?

im not opposed to the streaming sites existing, but there needs to better dispersment of funds. that's just way too many clicks on their website for 4k

they have 150M subscibers and generate about 250M a year. they can do better, someone at the tippy top is eating a little too much

yeah, the shyt sound like a low key pyramid scheme lol.

put your music on spotify, motivate your fanbase to sign up for spotify, and get paid.

thats how pyramid schemes work, they pyramid you, while you pyramid others, just to get a lil piece of the pie and they give crumbs smh.

music streaming is great for consumers. especially for today is very convenient, everybody wants shyt wirelessly, nobody wants to download and drag shyt from usb to a phone and take up space. im not gonna front, i dont even download music no more. ill either check it out online, datpiff, youtube, spotify. but i aint downloading shyt smh.

168 million streams and he only gettin 4k. its common sense dude is getting fukked hard.

:heh: I feel sorry for dude, but I swear I saw a song of his on a Beats commercial with NBA players or something.....

but yeah. a lotta cats are still under the illusion that if your shyt is getting played a lot by some folks then you're gonna get paid.

But it's the same thing as if your shyt sold 500k copies all bootleg. You'll hear your shyt being played out of hella cars but he only person being paid is THE BOOTLEGGER.

if your shyt is on the internet and gets played 5 billion times and you don't monetize it yourself, you get nothing. aif the place you hosted your shyt on gets paid a dollar per every 1000 impressions of a certain ad plus revenue from ad sales, then they just got rich(er). Multiply that by the number of ads you see or hear in a 30 minute block of songs. And that's the greater majority of these sites in a nutshell. Youtube, Pandora and all.

The Coli doesn't like so-called "corny white rappers", but Cage said it best after his early shyt supposedly got bootlegged and downloaded more than a million+ times: "I'll never see a platinum plaque from MP3s."

Woe to these cats, cause I know it's been a perpetuated myth since the dawn of the record label.... But woe to these cats that think they'll make money solely because people are listening to their shyt.

So would the answer be for the artist, is to take their products off of streaming services. Then delete all of their songs on Youtube by fan uploaders, and then self upload themselves on Youtube to at least get some advertising money in their pocket?

Streaming is robbery, but most of these artists are hustling backwards. If you're even relatively popular, just ditch the label and put out your shyt on Bandcamp, where you set the price point and make 90% of the money. There are other sites with even higher revenue percentages.

Look what Thom Yorke did for example. Put his newest solo album out for $6 in a BitTorrent bundle and it's sold over 4.5 million bundles. Even if he only made half of that (really he very likely made 80-90%+), that's still $13m in straight cash homie.

This is the type of shyt Lupe etc. should be doing. Producing an album outside of the major label sphere, full creative control and he can cake off of it.
