They're addicted to blowing people's shyt up, breh. Plain and simple.
It took me a few solid months of doing a work around to get into private lobbies before they gave you the option to select it on purpose, but the chaos of fukking people over for no reason, cheating and going godmode while making vids on, believe it or not, is a very lucrative thing online, hence why it's still getting spin to this day.
I earned about 300 million grinding the Motorcycle club businesses (Weed/Meth/Coke/Cash) to the point I've every major purchase, from Submarines, to COD AC130's I can have 4-6 men (pause) up in raining hell down on people, to that Hammer of Dawn satellite canon that can blow anyone anywhere up on the map and I log in with friends and we fight fools who look to pick on smaller/lesser players (Smurfing) just for our own shyts and giggles.
It's all about griefing, breh. The creativity in businesses, missions ran out years ago so now everyone in there is on some Carcer city, psychopath shyt that you got to be rich or a sweat to hang with.
I had the same experience. Played it a lot for a bit. Did all the heists, even completed the Criminal Mastermind challenge where you have to complete all quests with a full team on hard w/o anyone dying.
Once I had money, the appeal of the game really died. And I'm not crazy enough to want to spend all day "griefing" people or grind for fake currency.
I hope GTA 6 is better.
4 was a bit clunky as to Nikos movements, but great game. 5 is in my top 5 all time. Pure cinema. I've ran that campaign at least 3 times. Bought it for ps3, 5, and PC

In terms of Online culture?
I doubt it.
The same emphasis on grieving will be there and evident since that's how they made their money, through people wanting to enjoy the game but felt that they had to buy shark cards to be able to afford the offensive and defensive arsenal to run with the sweats, cheaters and those who grinded from day one. The only thing we both can hope for is a somewhat fun Online experience we can enjoy before it all goes to pot and they run out of 'creativity' and the sweats take over. Honestly, there should be an emphasis on Online Co-op shyt, like we should be able to literally go bowling, play cards, gamble, shoot dice and other multiplayer activities outside of riding shotgun on missions, but they know why there is still a dedicated fanbase playing their game and that's the destructive nature of the PVP that they actively encourage. So who knows? We'll see. I just hope it's fun for a moment before it loses it's flavour, because I don't have much hope for the Single player campaign being memorable.
Till this day I haven't been able to play GTA 4 because the driving is so terrible in that game. It takes me right out with how shyt it is. So when people talk about how "aMaZiNg" it is, I just have to roll my eyes.
GTA 5 on the other hand, I have played it on each console. It's fun to get into since every other sandbox series is mostly dead these days.
