Am I crazy to think Dead Prez debut is better than every Kendrick Lamar album?

It's a great album but I have no problem with Kendrick.

He gets the typical hate for someone who blew up from an underground favorite... Dead Prez never touched that level of consistency ever again. Kendrick is very consistent with his output. Look at J. Coles albums if you wanna see someone who is middle ground to mediocre but still has a solid fanbase.

Why’d you choose Kendrick’s albums specifically to compare that to?

Nope, it's a classic and while Kendrick is indeed better than both M1 and Stickman lyrically he doesn't hold a candle next to them when it comes to subject matter/content, especially with their first LP

Cause Kendrick is the go to commercial so called conscious rapper these days

I disagree. Stic Man is a beast lyrically. Kendricks only edge on Stic Man is the ability to switch emotions.

Production on Kendrick first album is better .... but in regards to lyrical content it depends on what you want to hear ...just because DP go more in-depth as to the why/how questions regarding our societal issues doesn’t mean that the MUSIC is better .... nikkas could say Immortal Technique goes more in-depth with his content than most rappers but I’d be dammed if I’d ever call his plodding as rhymes and rigid production dope

He was never an underground favorite and has been affiliated with the industry for double the length of his career.

the bolded is one of the main reasons why Kendrick gets so much hate.

he was never an underground favorite. he was an industry plant being marketed as an independent artist.
