Am I crazy to think Dead Prez debut is better than every Kendrick Lamar album?

the bolded is one of the main reasons why Kendrick gets so much hate.

he was never an underground favorite. he was an industry plant being marketed as an independent artist.
so what? ...doesn't change his come up, tons of artists have the machine behind them and still fail regardless of how the story is played up they still need to capture an audience. Hiipower movement did that for Kenny.. that's everyone from Wiz to Mac Miller even Nipsey etc. That's been the go to industry move for the last decade in marketing. Only fake armchair execs care bout the details it doesn't affect the music or the masses for them perception is reality. Go back to the 90's and your average artist had a huge development time between demo signing and album release. Old tactic new approach, fans want to feel like they discover new talent and build up the artist n be a part of the come-up story.

you made a false statement, and you were corrected.
that should be the end of the discussion.

and I don't think you understand. let me be more clear. this isn't artist development.
Kendrick was signed to aftermath, while pretending to be independent. all of his so-called underground fame was really the labels paying off the blogs and all of these other internet & media outlets, posturing him as some sort of underground king.

same thing with wiz khalifa, who was the blueprint for these modern web plants, and all these blog rappers(whether plants or not) who followed.
nipsey was LEGIT independent. you cant compare them to nipsey.
I don't know much about mac miller. I think hes legit indie, but hes white so......

nah perception is reality.

the come up still real if it wasn't he wouldn't have popped. if it was that easy Bishop Lamont would be a star :dead:

Nipsey been on Atlantic for years while claiming independent :umad:

I don't recall bishop lamont being planted.
youre clearly in denial, and you can stay in it. I'm not having a back-n-forth about this in 2018. if youre still in the dark, its because you want to be there.

as for nipsey, it depends on the type of deal he has. you can have an independent distribution deal with a major, you know. and it shows in the lack of promotion, if any.
and I don't recall nipsey hiding the atlantic deal. as opposed to Kendrick pretending to be unsigned.

I don't know his mixtape titles like that.

I know he was signed & had the label push behind him when he was still claiming to be a free agent, and the internet was eating that bullchit up.

It's not better than TPAB or GKMC. It's better than S80 and possibly DAMN tho.

TPAB is a top 5 rap album ever, not many rap albums are good enough to hold its own against it. TPAB set a whole new standard.

Why’d you choose Kendrick’s albums specifically to compare that to?
Because Kendrick got 4 classics and is the greatest rapper on current form. Add to the fact that GKMC is the West Coast Illmatic and TPAB is simply one of the greatest albums of all time.

TYRONE GA!
It's a great album but I have no problem with Kendrick.

He gets the typical hate for someone who blew up from an underground favorite... Dead Prez never touched that level of consistency ever again. Kendrick is very consistent with his output. Look at J. Coles albums if you wanna see someone who is middle ground to mediocre but still has a solid fanbase.

Pretty much. If Kendrick never blew up, he would be "underrated"
