Am I the only fine with how the NFL protects Quarterbacks?

negged for liking the pussification of the game. In 2005, 2 guys threw for 4,000 yards. In 2011, 3 threw for 5,000 yards. In 2002, Tom Brady led the league with 28 touchdown passes. Peyton threw 55 last year. I forget all the other shocking numbers, but this one should do it. Through 2007, only Dan Marino had ever thrown for 5,000 yards in a season. Since 2008, Drew Brees has done it 4 times, Peyton Manning twice I think, I think Brady did it twice, Matt Stafford has, and Eli fukking Manning came just 67 yards short of it too. In 2013, Peyton's 49 td pass season, his passes went 8.4 yards through the air on average. They went 6.2 last year. 49% of his yards were after the catch. Not being allowed to cover or hit anyone is bad for the game.

The rules are part of it, but offenses have changed as well. College and high school football are way more pass dominant now too. The game has changed.

we are literally like 3-5 years away from qbs being holy cows and you having to flag football tackle them in the pocket

the league clearly wants qbs to be stars and offenses to dominate. couple with that with the concussion lawsuits threats and its clear to see why.

the league doesnt give a shyt about safety. if it really did it would use its huge funds to wage a war on roids. guess what happens when they catch half the league on roids- players will be slower to recover, will not gain a ton of superhuman strength.

but obviously the league doesnt want to do THAT if it means half of their players being exposed for blatant roiding. in fact, I think a huge oidr scandal is one the few things that CAN bring NFL down.

anyway, the most disgusting thing is that the league doesnt even hide the bias toward glamour positions. football used to be a game where all players were treated equally. now you have different rules for offense and defense. and qb has the most leeway because hes a cash cow. :pacspit: all this bullshyt. with each fukking year theres less and less incentive for someone to go out and risk their health playing defense when the league is basically creating blatant rules against good defenses.

the 'game has changed' because of oversaturation of entertainment and insatiability of average american sports watcher.

its not just enough to watch a football game and competition
you have to have a fukking storyline with espn talking heads creating bullshyt narratives, from NFL to college to now even high school
you have to have intrigue, ie as little blowouts as possible
you have to have good offenses, on both side of the ball
you have to have big and exciting plays

and with each year the emphasis gets stronger and stronger on scoring, scoring often and fast. because scoring 'decently' is simply not enough anymore to keep up with fantasy and entertainment junkies :pacspit:

the game is getting further and further away from being a competition but is more like a fukking tv show playing at viewers whim with every year. it's a farce.

Go to any HS game now vs when you played 10-15 years ago the game looks vastly different. The spread is a big part of it....the games all about getting guys in space.

I love football...I play fantasy but I rarely gamble. If fantasy was banned Id still watch every game...but shyt evolves. :manny: I'd rather have the p*ssy rules than no football.

I wish the NFL and all other leagues would commit to just pleasing the actual fans and not the advertisers, but those days are gone.

but its not like there's just 'p*ssy rules' or 'no football'. Id agree if there were no other real choices.
theres more alternatives.

and Im saying, high schools that have good football program in US are pretty streamlined with the more adult systems of ncaa and nfl
they understand more people will watch a game where qbs pass a lot in a spread.
they understand that grooming one-two great WR and especially QB prospects will grant them more recruitment attention, both ways.

its all a big money funnel which is vertically built from the ground-up. difference is nowadays everything is focused on offense and specifically qb.

to the point where like Ive said before, if you are a CB football and CF baseball prospect, I dont see why youd choose football if you dont truly love the game. much better money (although not right away), better health, more longevity. and you wont play a game where rules are initially against you.

Personally I dont think Chip Kelly at New Hampshire was designing his offense around making sure it was entertaining....he wanted to win.

I never said he did. obviously there are some very talented offensive coordinators and offensive-minded coaches who know their shyt

plus, building a good offense is generally easier than a good defense when talent is roughly equal, just because of nature of both sides. playing defense you play reactively and unless you have top talent its really tough to stop a well oiled machine that is a good college (for example) offense. plus new rules make it even easier to construct a good offense.

Somehow the Jets have failed to pick up on that concept.

But I think guys like Kelly are good for football...evolution is good. I do wish they stopped messing with the rules and officiated games all year like they do in the playoffs.

And I disagree about not wanting to play defense...offensive personnel seems to be more interchangeable now than defense. Good secondary players and pass rushers will continue to see top dollar.

Co-sign. I think NFL need to let em be more physical with the WR's, but QB gotta be protected. Ain't nobody tryna tune into a game and see a bunch of Austin Davis's :scusthov:

Austin Davis was like 13/15 or some shyt in the 1st half, whats wrong with that ?

in the NFL its a bit more even because theres top talent in terms of defense. if you dont have a decent offense in the NFL tho, its likely because of lack of talent or a really bad OC. or the team is rebuilding. when jets had a good rushing attack even fez didnt look godawful.

anyway even chip kelly has had trouble of his teams scoring. shyt philly couldnt do jack shyt against the Niners weak secondary and front 7 that was missing all pros.

Sanchez was a turnover machine. If you're not getting positive production from the QB position over the course of the season it's impossible to win a championship. You can't overcome turnovers.

you're getting off topic. jets were a middle of the road offense when they went to the offs iirc.
now they lack talent. or at least that is what most jets fans talk about, but looking at that roster, I cant argue with them.

so that doesnt contradict what I said. its easier than ever to make a half decent offense in the league. you have a ton of young qbs coming and working well in good environments, unless theyre total fukkups. and elite qbs put up video game numbers. alex smith is putting up near 25/6 seasons and stafford is putting up 40td seasons. and peyton, brees, etc just go off

like Ive said the only excuses for not having a decent offense are lack of talent (jets, raiders, etc) or bad offensive coordinators (I think niners fit here but honestly the offense isnt really bad, its just underachieving)

the Jets lack talent on offense because the coach doesnt believe in offense.
