But Amazon isn't being dubious about their intentions.
If you don't trust your local council people then vote them out. Or call them and ask. Or meet them and ask.
But any tax break Chicago or the Illinois offers likely won't make your life worse and certainly isn't worse than the amount gained by the citizens.
The Corp boogeyman argument isntisalways goog.
Amazon is a business. Their interests are about getting the best possible deal on this HQ2 using the leverage they have, some of which they created and some of which already exists for a company that large. The best possible deal for Amazon as a company does not mean that this deal is all positive or even mostly positive for Chicago. The interests of a single corporation and the interests of a city of millions are not necessarily the same.
If the deal includes massive tax breaks, property given to Amazon at far under market value, neighborhood's evicted and forced out, tax funded construction, etc., it could very well mean that the costs of Amazon coming here could outweigh the gains. In a city and state with financial issues, this is a concern.
If Amazon coming here contributes to or causes financial issues for the city or state, it would affect my life.
The position that the potential jobs created are the sole measurement of whether this is positive or not is simply unsupportable.
