Walmart needs to implement this more than anyone. I go to my local neighborhood walmart sometimes, it's cheap and convenient for the most part. They added more self checkouts which I like because I can move at my own pace which is haul ass. There are maybe 4 real registers and 20 self checkouts. Go there after a certain hour, they close allllllll the self checkouts and have 1 cashier working with at least 40 people in store buying groceries. I usually walk in and walk right back out.

One of the many reasons I don't shop at Walmart anymore.

Slowly but surely moving closer to the mark of the beast.

Anyway, this type of technology takes away human jobs. Now how will high school and college students save up any money to help them on their feet
They'll have to borrow it from the bank that the 1% owns so they can pay their bills. That way when they do get a job making good money, they use all of the money they earn to pay back the loans they took out. It's just moving towards the only option being a revolving door of debt and financial servitude. They've done a great job of that here on the east coast with real estate and education, service and retail industry is next.
Business owners (job creators) are always looking to increase efficiency and maximize their bottom line. They will NEVER have an interest in social welfare. That's up to our governments to look after. Propping up redundant jobs just for the sake of having people hired is a no-go for them.
and who's responsible for our nations politicians getting an agenda laid out? Corporate lobbyists who can finance their campaigns, who don't give a care about social welfare because it hurts thier bottom line. That's why corporations keep getting tax cuts and don't pay billions in taxes from overseas unless they lose a case, like what just happened with Apple having to pay billions in back taxes.

What is the alternative?

If one company decides to stick to hiring human employees, and even pushes it in all their marketing ("We hire real people") there's nothing stopping their competition from doing the exact opposite and passing the savings on to their customers.

So if consumers are asked to choose between the two, which one do you think they'll choose?

It's a free market capitalist society we live in unfortunately.

The company hiring the humans in this scenario wouldn't be able to compete.

This looks like RFID on steroids.

Old technology but they can easily track people with this shyt.

And people need to start pushing back on how humans are being replaced by technology, especially when it comes to jobs. Unless they're ready for chaos and anarchy because humans have to survive.

Humans vs. machines might end up being the next world war. Then we'll start all over again from the stone age.

If your government (TRUMP) doesn't see the gross inequalities in income on the horizon then I don't know what to tell you.

Other nations have been preparing for this ages ago, it's only America that seems to be so behind. You all can't even come together to pass universal healthcare for goodness sake.

It's usually the later hours when this happens, especially when I need something in a pinch may it be water, meds, and Publix is closed. I usually forget that I got jammed the last time I went at an odd hour due to all the trips I make without probs. I end up going to the gas station or a 24hr CVS due to the length of the line.

millions of people losing jobs is definitely bad, it's bigger than just losing a job. if I'm a concierge at one hotel and lose my job, the opportunity to get another job exists. But if the entire job is completely replaced across the board, I have to move to another industry that I likely have no experience in.

This is why universal basic income should seriously be considered here. I'm 100% against stifling technological advances in favor of people getting to keep jobs that can be done more efficiently by robots.
:heh: You do know that universal basic income is a fantasy that will never be seen in America right? We can’t even get these crackers to give people healthcare. The wealth gap is widening not shrinking. Look at the tax bill that just passed. It’s basically corporate welfare.

I appreciate technology too, but you’d have to be blind to not see what’s potentially coming. It’s interesting to me because I can see it backfiring on corporate America if they revolutionize the work/job industry too quickly with all of this advanced technology. When you eliminate millions of jobs you’re also taking even more people out of the consumer market. You can have a self serving store all you want but if you don’t have enough people to go in and spend money buying shyt(that often isn’t a necessity) then what’s the point?

And how does one push back? With their money?

It's a free market breh, we all bought into this philosophy. You can't reject it now that some are affected. We just have to adapt.

nikkas about to find a loophole and hit they ass in the mothafuking head. Gotta be a way you can trick the system. They gotta have humans in the store to monitor people cause humans will always find a way to outsmart computers. Just like self checkouts. Those ain’t nothing but licks. Stores gotta have people monitor people at the self checkout machines to help with issues they might have and to deter people from stealing.
but even if someone finds a way to shoplift once in a while, it's probably already calculated in the cost of doing business and they're probably still saving more than if they hired people (salaries, insurance, cost of handling workers complaints/conflicts, supplies you gotta provide for workers, payroll, etc)

Our president is a rich Caucasian man whose been wealthy his entire life. Our elected government officials congressmen senators and such, receive their political propulsion from other wealthy Caucasian men so they can pass laws to maintain the interests of wealthy Caucasian men. Why would a handful of wealthy caicasian men care that 90% of the country is existing simply to serve them and are poor and starving while doing so? Why would they work to make that not become a reality? They will have their gated communities to live in and and they have a militarized police force in case the serf class tries to get out of hand.
Nobody thinks they're going to be the one fighting for scraps. Everybody thinks it's going to be the other guy who's ass out, so they don't care that now teenagers are broke and won't have money to enjoy their adolescence, because a machine can scan a code 5 seconds faster.

What would you propose as an alternative to this technology. Paying humans to do something that technology can handle far more efficiently isn't a good business model.
