I wouldn't wish the Amazon corporate experience on my worst enemy. You're auto opp status if you're a manager from there too. Like I'm literally gonna look at your resume/linkedin and use every bit of political clout I have and find any reason I can to make sure you specifically won't get hired and it's another dev on my team fighting this cold war silently with me. Better downgrade your title:camby:

However long it will take to have a warehouse full of robots. I’m thinking we like 5 years at least from that, no ?
I used to run warehouses and partnered with people doing automation. The bid and the building of the robots takes longer than the implementation. The automation itself is actually relatively simple. It's whether or not their WMS can actually handle automation. Companies don't like switching their WMS often because the business has to go down for a period of time, and you'll probably have operational issues for 3-6 months afterwards.

Coincidentally, actually interviewed for a Area Manager role with Amazon years ago and it had robots in there then. Amazon is replacing 600K warehouse workers by 2033. The bulk of that will be done before 2030. 5 years for ROI isn't business effective. 3 is standard for logistics.

The first sign a tech company about to do a mass-layoff is when it does a Return-to-office . It's just to get people to quit
so they don't get unemployment benefits , then those that don't quit just get layoff a few months later.

Heard a lot of that was HR:

You heard Amazon say they’re in the process of building A.I agents.

They’re removing lot of middle men roles and want technical people. That’s what these companies are going to be doing.

The only true “human touch” roles that are safe are in healthcare/medicine.
