Thanks for the info and insight.
Sentencing doesn't take place for at least a few weeks, in most cases. Certainly not the same day. They have the opportunity to submit letters from the victims family, and the defendants, as well as the lawyers who ask for a set sentence. I do think it's a tragic accident of negligence, but the fear was that the privilege of being an officer and white would lead to no justice for the victims family. The verdict means there will be, or a measure of justice at least.
