What did the defense claim? She was distracted and tired? Why did she walk into the wrong house, and not realize her mistake, and instead draw a weapon? Was it really just a bizarre circumstance?

Alcohol would explain that perfectly, but I haven't see that mentioned in the limited trial coverage I read, yesterday.

Those impressions are eerily good.
they were largely resigned to trying to raise reasonable doubt. there was no solid defense. I mean it was really pathetic. they had witnesses that had gone to the wrong floor and one who had gone into the wrong apartment. the prosecutor cross examination every time was...but did anyone get shot

She was tired and distracted by sexting her partner who is married. They also brought up that other residents have mistakenly got off on the wrong floor, to say its an issue in that building with have clear signs to indicate what floor you are on. I said she was drunk too but supposedly she didnt have any drugs or alcohol in her system. What really hurt me though is that she admitted to not rendering aid. He was still alive when other officers showed up. She was busy texting her partner to come help her and on the phone. She claimed she didnt give him cpr because she was on the phone.

Edit: I'm watching the sentencing, Amber's lawyers are trying to get a bunch of shyt thrown out, like her text messages and the judge isnt having it. What I dont understand is, I thought the judge determines the time sentenced but it looks like maybe the jury does? I dont get it. I think Botham's mother is on the stand now.

Thanks for the info and insight.

Sentencing doesn't take place for at least a few weeks, in most cases. Certainly not the same day. They have the opportunity to submit letters from the victims family, and the defendants, as well as the lawyers who ask for a set sentence. I do think it's a tragic accident of negligence, but the fear was that the privilege of being an officer and white would lead to no justice for the victims family. The verdict means there will be, or a measure of justice at least.

Yeah so far his mom, co worker and sister (she is on the stand now) have testified.

If anyone is in Texas and can answer. who determines the time she is sentenced to? Why is the jury hearing testimony? Shouldnt they be done? I googled but its still not clear to me.

The jury, which will decide the length of punishment, began hearing testimony in the sentencing portion of the trial Tuesday afternoon, during which Ms. Jean testified that she has often been sick and unable to work since the loss of her son, whose birthday fell during the trial. He would have been 28.

Amber Guyger, Ex-Dallas Police Officer, Is Guilty of Murder for Killing Her Neighbor

Some states do the sentencing phase as a second phase of the trial process.
