It's poetic in a way.

After winning the Cold War, America wanted to cement its role as the world's only superpower. It wanted to finally shake off the ghost of Vietnam. It vanquished Saddam Hussein's Iraq while dazzling the world with its military.

Then, the son of the President who laid waste to Iraq tumbled into war in Mesopotamia. Thus baring to all the weakness of American power and tying the country towards a region hurtling towards armageddon.

Thousands of Americans dead, $2trn in costs and for what? American reputation in the region sank to a new low, Iraq became an Iranian client state, a sectarian war which will last decades has been unleashed and the Chinese ended up with all the oil contracts.
