If you ever have any doubt about how deep this infection goes...

The rest of the world typically isn't as segregated as the US and so I think there is a struggle to bridge the gap sometimes and Americans can project some of their personal race views onto every situation.

On a related note, Chinese Assassin had the mixtape scene on lock for 5-10 years growing up... also Black Chiney and for sound clashes (aka the original Versuz battles), David Rodigan.

I actually raised this question a couple years ago.
Why did Jamaica, a 95% black country, allow a nonblack to become it's biggest music export after half white bob marley?
That shyt is crazzy when you think about it
between them and south Africans, I don't know who like to claim their country is a rainbow nation more. Colon ng is severe between these two
We (Americans) gravitated to his singles. I'm sure colorism and attractiveness played a part in his success in America but that wasnt due to Jamaica.

I dont understand what's wrong with that woman's statement. The replies are adding shyt the original tweet never said.

Sean Paul is an Asian/white jew who made a career pretending to be a light skin Jamaican with braids.
Sean Paul came up through dancehall ranks

Honestly, just blame the kids or chronically online people who didn't grow up during Sean Paul's peak.

During his peak, nobody.....and I repeat....nobody gave a damn about this stuff. In NYC, both West Indians and Black Americans partied to Sean Paul's music. His ancestry or looks didn't even come up in any conversations. And Sean Paul was accepted in hip hop and R&B circles, hence why Beyonce made that song with him.

This is just chronically online Twitter babble rage baiting for engagement.
Yup and this was a 1998 classic

I guess if nationality is more important than ethnicity to you.

When most people think of Jamaica, they think of people of African ancestry, not mixed Chinese and Europeans who's history in Jamaica dates back a single generation.

But if Jamaicans are ok claiming basically anyone, who am I to say anything.
Only wierdo Americans claim distant lands as their ethnicity. While simultaneously being mocked by whatever nation they claim as not being one of them

Sean Paul is a Jamaican. Black, white, Asian, whatever, the man is full Jamaican. Its not a race its a nationality/culture which he was born and raised into. Just like being born an American

This thread really went on way to long for such a simple concept.

I never denied his musical impact, and neither did the original tweet. Nobody accused him of being a culture vulture.

The original tweet just stated that we all grew up thinking Sean Paul was a biracial Jamaican with African ancestry, only to learn that he isn't even a little bit black.
