On a purely mainstream level, these artists got play and promotion, but again due to the lack of an infrastructure in the mainstream, R&B like the examples below did not thrive:





Keyshia Cole was like the last real break out star, but even she struggled at the beginning. It took 3-4 records before she caught on with "I Should've Cheated". Then it was hit after hit from there until around 2010.

She wrote and was featured on hit songs. Even after she allegedly dissed Beyonce, these records were released:





So tell me why is Beyoncé's husband Jay Z, and self-proclaimed "little brother" Kanye West working with Keri Hilson if she was blackballed? Ne-Yo wrote "Pretty Girl Rock" and he was also writing for Beyonce at the time.
