The bulk of traditional sources date the book to the reign of the Roman emperor Domitian (AD 81–96), which evidence tends to confirm.[4]

Like I said, that book, like ALL the NT books, was written in the 1st Century. Gnostic texts didn't get rolling until the 4th and they all use the NT texts for source material.

The greatest lie ever told by your father, Satan.
The Gospel of Matthew 12:24-28

24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?

27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.

28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

Genesis 25:21-29

21 And Isaac intreated the Lord for his wife, because she was barren: and the Lord was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the Lord.

23 And the Lord said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

24 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

25 And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.

26 And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.

27 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.

28 And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob.

29 And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:

Genesis 3:9-15

9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

It has nothing to do with 'faith', but textual criticism. Constantine didn't combine the Churches. The ONLY opposing sect to Orthodoxy was Arianism. The other sects disappeared because they were theologically nonviable in the face of Apostolic Authority, logic, and reason....

Your professor was being disingenuous.

The largest libraries of most of the first and second millennia were either held by the church, or by state-run collections.
Saying "high-level priests" is just bullshyt sprinkled on top of truth to make it sound mysterious. The Vatican has one of the largest and oldest book collection on the planet, if there are ancient "grimoires" in their possession (magic, alchemy, and old medicine were almost always a part of the same text, along with poetry and art) - they're in the general library.

If you have a research interest, you can email them - and they'll send you a photocopy of a given text.
Awesome info! Thanks!

by whos authority... but Constantine? :jbhmm:

what gives someone the right to tell someone what to believe? :jbhmm:

Dum esset Salvator in monte, imponens aptissima nomina

Discipulis suis, vocavit Iacobum et Ihohannem Boanerges,

Quod est filii tonitrui.

Sicut enim vox tonitrui in rota mundi sonat,

Sic in omnem terram exivit sonus predicacionum beati Iacobi,

Quod est filii tonitrui

Gloria Patri et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto

By the authority of the Bishops throughout the Empire who inherited their authority from the Apostles who's authority came from Jesus himself, and Christians only have a few core beliefs. That's why Arianism was a problem.
