Rich white men getting off is one of the biggest problems in our justice system.
Rape laws as a rule were framed originally for the protection of men of the upper classes, whose daughters and wives might be assaulted. What happens to working-class women has usually been of little concern to the courts; as a result, remarkably few white men have been prosecuted for the sexual violence they have inflicted on these women. While the rapists have seldom been brought to justice, the rape charge has been indiscriminately aimed at Black men, the guilty and innocent alike.
So I am not saying the above to refute you.
But if we address and fix the problem, won't that also fix the racism portion?
What I mean to say is that there's something wrong where girls/women are raped and either the rapist walks free or the wrong person is convicted.
So when others are brining up race, I don't see it as refuting the importance of the fact that 98% of rapists walk away free.
If anything it just shows how the problem compounds itself and if anything raises more red flags that the issue needs to be addressed.
Coli peeps, why are you mentioning race as opposition to the OP?
But it's not the only problem. Are 98% of accused rapists rich white men? Explain Eric Eugene Wilkes or Alfred Berry or the 800+ serial rapists whose cases were sitting in a Detroit warehouse uninvestigated.
The issue with police failing to take rape seriously goes far past race and wealth alone. They are men in positions of power, is it really that surprising that they don't take these sorts of victims as seriously as they take other issues?
I remember when Covid started, many was saying it was fake, and what I was saying is that yes govt does lie, but the way to differentiate between reality and a fake conspiracy theory is scale!
So that many countries could not have been lying about Covid deaths, it's just way too many people of too many countries involved.
Same thing here, that many women cannot be lying about being raped, it's just not possible.
Yes false rape accusations do exist, but I greatly doubt that they represent the majority of rape allegations.
In fact the number is probably not as bad as reality as many women keep silent about being raped.
