I have reservations about this album, yet I'm also anticipating hearing the direction this goes under Dre's helm.

Malibu AND YES LAWD are easily 2 of my most played albums in the last few years. And what drew me into those joints and .Paak in general is how they merged a smooth and raw sound to them. His music got an edge to it that's just fresh.

I'm curious to see if the album still has that touch to it. I feel like Dr. Dre is a technical guy who loves polishing shyt up, and I'm just waiting to see how this joint comes out cause the 2 contrasting styles from where I became a fan of .Paak came from doesn't really mix with what we know Dre to do with acts/music.

We kind of already seeing the direction switch with the singles he's dropped already. While they're good songs, they aren't necessary what I'd call .Paak songs if that makes sense. idk, I'm looking forward to this shyt tho either way.
Exactly my feelings on it

The only single has been Bubblin right? Till It's Over was like 4 years old and he only let Apple use it because they threw him a bag for it for the commercial. He was against it at first because he had the new album coming out.
Just now seeing this... I didn't know the backstory for Til It's Over. Get your money black man
:salute:

You think it's going to be on the album tho?

On Desus & Mero Paak said everything he puts out has to be approved by Dre.

On Desus and Mero he said Til it's Over was 4 years old

Was on some :patrice: when his manager told him they wanted to use the song, because it was old and he had the album coming out. When he found out how much they were gonna pay him he was

Also said he has 75,000 songs in the vault :dwillhuh:
I can see it being in the album just because it'll already have some streams, bonus joint.

On my phone so can't post the DM interview

We have literally heard ONE song from the album. One. Making judgements on the album based off that is stupid. The other information we know...Dre is mixing, Madlib is on it, Kendrick is on it, Alchemist is probably on it. Sorry but that doesn't make me think this is a pop album full of trap and bullshyt.

I'm not really into Bubblin. Not a bad track but nothing interesting, and it clearly wasn't a hit either. Given that Paak is a dope songwriter and Dre loves r&b/funk/etc I'm not going to assume this album will be a commercial reach. Paak isn't some random dude with no musical slant who will just do what Interscope wants. He's an artist. And the last time I checked, the last time Dre got heavily involved with an Interscope ARTIST with a vision for his own music...we got GKMC.
:yeshrug:

Soooo I'm not worried. I remember nikkas being all freaked out when Backseat Freestyle came out too, saying the album was gonna be a bunch of trap/radio reaches. They were wrong.

100% on point.

Look at the debuts that Dre has been behind and tell me which one was watered down? New artists don't drop on Aftermath if the music isn't on point.

Dre helps artists achieve their own vision and get that shyt sounding A1.

Paak has so much talent that this has every chance of being the classic the industry is hailing it as.

I haven't had this much confidence in a commercial debut since Good Kid.

Bubblin is wack.
Yeah that song wasn’t my favorite neither.. but I personally can’t judge an album until I hear it from top to bottom. I feel like this thread is going to be a hot mess when the album drops. It’s a known trend. Anticipate only to hate.
