I mean at some points he's right that Dems need to improve on selling leftist policies that improve the working class. But he's obviously also saying that Dems should focus less on racial issues as well like BLM and whatever to appease scared whites who might be turned off by cultural inclusion issues. It's not like he's the only with this point however, because that working class platform was the same thing that Bernie focused instead of racial issues and a lot of minorities still loved him. We'll see where the party goes because I don't have an easy answer.

Trump's "national populism" ate away the socially conservative but fiscally liberal white working class voters who used to keep the Midwest blue. I think it will be hard to get them back but who knows. The GOP pretends to be the party of the working class now, Romney was the last hurrah of the old guard Republicans.

he’s right... but also wrong for many reasons... he doesn’t understand white people or understands them from an outsider scope.. most dont.

1. most times when people, usually the right and republicans talk about “working class”, to them that means = white people, white rural americans etc which brings me to my next point since they hate Mass and states like ours

2. Massachusetts is one of the most pro democratic working class states, our state is huge on unions! unions ruin our state! filled with the demographic of people repubs claim to love IE construction workers, independent contracts and workers, business owners. there’s more mom and pop shops here than there are big businesses edit (not everywhere, though.. but here in springfield there is and it’s mostly non whites) & a large population of immigrants, white and non white..who moved here and aren’t ‘criminals’ like the lie republican claims and actually own their own businesses and contribute hugely to our economies. republicans and racists don’t actually love the working class, they ‘love’ the ‘working class’ that is mostly separated from non whites. they ‘love’ the working class they can take advantage of the most IE florida with illegal immigration, florida is anti union because they get illegal immigrants to do the shyt for way cheaper and the workers rights aren’t protected at all!

3. it’s not about appealing to the “democratic working class”, it’s about appealing to the white working class thats racists and shoot their nose off to spite their face aka racists who are against things that will benefit them mostly just because they don’t want black people and poc to benefit as well

4. the right and republicans believe that people, specially ADOS are stuck on a “democratic plantation that keeps them slaves and oppressed”. we can all agree that dems really haven’t done shyt for black people, that even in the most democratic states the racial wealth gap is huge. it is very big here in Massachusetts..manufacturing jobs actually contribute to that, as they take advantage of black people, POC and immigrants the most. i could get into that if anyone is interested, as i’ve seen this throughout years over time i’ve mostly worked in manufacturing.) BUT democratic states do have a lot more laws, social benefits etc that help non whites, specifically black people, and you know... way less voter oppression (i know, one less evil for another etc). and very importantly... way better education! mostly republican controlled states are ranked the lowest in education across the US.

in other words... dems somehow need to appeal to racist people that hate black people, and POC unless they can take advantage of them on behalf of money and white supremacy.

The white work class is a lost cause at this point. There are no policies that will drive them away from the appeal of fascism
Your right :snoop:

White Americans want America to be a failed state — and that is its fundamental, deep, and long standing problem. That is how America ended up here — more than half a century of white hostility to any kind of social progress whatsoever — which resulted in social collapse, and culminated in Trumpism. White people made America a failed state.

Let me make it clearer. White Americans can be relied on, in the majority, as a group, to “vote Republican.” I put it in quotes because it’s worth examining what that anodyne statement really means. Liberal, sane, thoughtful White Americans often overestimate how many of them there are, how widespread their cause is. You might think that sounds over the top, so here’s the worse news. The chart above says this. It says that white Americans, as a group, have never, as a group, voted for a Democratic President. Never in modern history. In fact, the chart above in fact understates the problem. This trend goes back to JFK and perhaps before.

Here are some things white Americans have been for, as a group, in their majority. Segregation. Endless war. Inequality. Billionaires. Capital. Guns and religion as primary social values. That is what the voting pattern above means. Conversely, here are some thing white Americans have been against, as a group, in their majority. Desegregation. Civil rights. Womens’ rights. Their own healthcare, retirement, and childcare. Public goods of any kind whatsoever. That is what the “voting pattern” above means in the real world. Need I go on? America’s problem is that white Americans as a social group, its majority social group, want America to be a failed state. They don’t want to live in a modern, civilised democracy, and never have.

thank you for sharing this. and it’s all facts. especially this part

“Liberal, sane, thoughtful White Americans often overestimate how many of them there are, how widespread their cause is.”

the truth is, even a good portion of the “liberal” white who and their family members benefit from things like Mass Health, Medicaid etc things that literally help their lives so much will tell you they don’t want universal healthcare :mjpls:

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and ignore the other

The Democrats have always been the party of the working class.

They were with Obama in 2008 and 2012. They would have been with Sanders in 2016 if he won over Clinton who was seen as a liberal elitist.

flordia voted for a 15 dollar/hr minimum wage... and also said fukk the democrats at the same time

the problem with the dems is that they're told time and again EXPLICITLY what their core voters and repub-opposition want - and they instead opt for some middle ground bullshyt that satisfies no one. you can apply the racial disingenuousness to damn near all of their platforms. women's rights, healthcare, worker protections, immigration, foreign policy, climate, etc. they know what their core voters want.

instead, they invite jon kasich to the convention and lose ohio anyways :mjlol:
