I'm interested in seeing if the league eventually pushes more towards starting QB's on their rookie deals. I'd take a 2-3 year run with Russell Wilson/Nick Foles at 1 Million over a 5 year run with Dalton/Stafford/Flacco at 15 million. Obviously this comes at a higher risk as finding a Russell Wilson every 3 years takes a great amount of scouting talent/luck, but I just don't see these non-elite QB's being worth it.

A 5 year run with Dalton/Stafford and Flacco offers more job security for a coach than playing whack-a-mole every 3 years with a new QB.

the market is set, and andy isnt wrong by demanding market $, i agree as much

however, bengals nor any team HAS to do anything. no team has to pay the price if they see value not corresponding to impact. every nfl player out there has a value beyond which teams should conside alternatives

also, when you say alternative, you mean talent level. when you should be looking at value. there is alternative for every single player in nfl history value-wise, as long as there is salary capr

You make an intriguing point but team building for value only goes so far as what's available in practice.

If Cincy cuts Dalton, AJ McCarron supplants the position and fails to offer the same dividends. Accordingly there aren't many decent players available to make up the difference between McCarron's and Dalton's performance. On the other hand, if Cincy trades Dalton for picks, the likelihood of landing a first round QB able to supplant Dalton's production is high. Moreover, even if the first round QB fails to match Dalton's impact, the combination of that QB's performance as well as additional draft picks should match Dalton.

Now, this might be the most logical way to help the team but the Bengals won't do it? Why? Because they might get fired in the process if things don't immediately work out.

obviously theyd have to trade him if they werent re-signing him. considering how much bears got for cutler and how much bengals got for palmer, its a good bet theyd get a good return.
