Using time played/endurance is a stupid argument. The sport you choose will determine the time played not athleticism. Tennis isn't a contact sport. Let's have Will Anderson Jr hit them between sets and see if they can continue for 5 hours.

There isn't a tennis player out there
who you could say is a better athlete than a top NFL receiver, DB, running, back etc. those guys have speed, strength, leaping ability, hand eye coordination, etc. A lot of those guys ran track or played basketball or even baseball.

Tell Roddikk to do some combine drills and let's see how athletic he is.

I'm not gonna get into who has the best athletes debate, but tennis players are really like that.

Speed, reflexes, coordination, agility, endurance, power, technique, you need it all. and you can't break mentally... Ever.
And thats athleticism. I dont know if they are but I know you cant sleep on them and moreover the rationale many are using is off.

I see a lot of folks (in here and throughout various threads and topics) mistaking toughness for athleticism. Best athlete means combining the most aspects of athleticism not who could beat whose ass. Getting to be the best generally requires toughness but there is more to it than that.

Off the top of my head, I think football LB and S have a case. Gotta be fast, strong, tough, have endurance, quick twitch, lateral quickness, ball skills :dame:, reaction time.

Pawgs with dragons
1) Boxers. 2) soccer players. I don't even think number 1 is up for debate.
MMA, maybe?:yeshrug:I personally think boxers are more fit overall, but I think there's comparison at the highest levels.

I do think how much someone values stamina and endurance in their definition of "athletic" plays a big part in this determination. Because if you value power, speed, quickness, fast twitch ability (feel the need to pause that:dame:), football, basketball, and rugby are going to be your biases. Difficulty? Baseball. Tennis is underrated for difficulty. Ballers know the stop and go ability of tennis players is on par with elite WRs or CBs. Swimming doesn't get enough love for difficulty either.

If toughness plays into your definition of athleticism, American football players, or rugby players probably clear. Lacrosse is underrated. But yeah, tennis ain't ever produced the best athletes. The smartest athletes, realized they could dominate choosing that sport.

I'll go extra and say a Bronny James could be one of the most dominant tennis players if he had chosen that. Yes, Bronny. Angel Reese could be at least better than Coco Gauff if she chose tennis.

Lastly (after this unnecessary thesi), I'm realizing gymnastics might be the answer:unimpressed:

You can make an argument for numerous sports. Every sport is different and requires different skillsets.

With that said, I'll probably say boxing as you need strength, stamina, speed, intelligence,, and many other factors. You can't sit back and really just half ass a round or you risk getting knocked out. You can half ass a play in basketball, soccer, football, tennis, and many other sports without having your skull smashed.

I think it has to be a distance runner or a cyclist. Tour de France is 2,200 miles in 21 days with a ton of elevation gain. What Sifan Hassan did last year in the Olympics is absolutely nuts. Gold Medal in the marathon, bronze in the 10,000m and bronze in the 5000m.

The only sports that have an argument are soccer basketball and football. All that physical contact with multiple people and you are running and jumping a lot :hubie:he just arguing for his sport

I dont think any sport has a dominance on the best athletes

But one thing ive grown to appreciate is F1 drivers with their reaction times, coordination and the amount G force they have to fight each race. I never thought of motorsport drivers as athletes until I re-followed the sport after the last five years.
