Since the NIL has started, what stars have they created in college?

I dont recognize any of the college basketball players at all. College football- I dont think any of them are stars because of NIL, but still because of the schools they played for and the attention they already had. JJ McCarthy is a national championship winning, white QB, and no one cares who he is. Caleb Williams has fame do to his play and that he was at USC. I didnt see him in commercials/ads that would make him a bigger star.

So what is the NIL doing for star building?

I’m just talking on the WBB side of things. I don’t watch college football(and I barely watch the NFL) but I 100% know who Caleb Williams is as someone who doesnt follow the sport

NIL hasn’t been enough to save men’s college basketball, salaries being implemented may help but the men’s side has been on a downturn ever since alternatives have popped up like the G League Ignite, Overseas etc. The biggest names and top prospects in the draft are often not college players.

It’s different compared to WBB where college is the only option and staying all 4 years is a requirement so that’s more time to build a brand and fanbase before going pro. Girls like Flau’Jae and Paige have almost 2 million ig followers, HVL has over a million, Juju is almost at a million after 1 season. Not to mention Paige is damn near a whole phenomenon on TikTok with 2.5 million followers and gets millions of likes on her posts. She might not attract Middle America MAGA racists like Caitlin but she has Gen Z in a chokehold and even black people rock with her heavy

All of these girls are in several different running commercials as we speak. The visibility is different with NIL and in turn makes for more hype and fanfare when they go pro.
