I thought MLB teams were trying to get rid of these type of contracts for players near or over 30? Wasn’t that the really why there were a lot of players who had yet to sign with a team before Spring Training?
This is the only big contract Rendon will get. If MLB is mad about around 30 year olds getting paid, they need to change the system.

Yup.

Aaron Judge is going to be a free agent at 31 for instance. That’s the only big contract he will sign.

Damn I didn’t realize that he was already that old, but he was in the minor leagues for 3 years before the call up so that explains it.

Isn’t there a clause in the system that allows a team to keep a player in the minor leagues for a certain amount of time to get them under contract for an extra year? They did it with Vlad Jr. I believe.

Yeah

if the player is in the minors after June 1, it’s another year onto their service years. Then arbitration years until free agency. It’s why these big contracts take place. It’s backpay for being underpaid during their peak years.

675 Mill invested between Trout/Rendon. That is ludicrous :mjlol: They’re talking about heavily investing in a starter now. They gonna give Bumgarner over 100 mill too :what: We are
Talking about a shytty 72-90 team just last season :gucci:
Anything over $80 mil for Madbum on a non competitive team is a waste. I think he hasn’t pitched well because he’s not pitching For anything. Angels aren’t fielding a great squad until they get at least 2 good front line arms and another bat to replace whatever the hell they thought Pujols was going to give them last season.

Theres also the super 2 status and other manipulative tactics gm’s can take to make sure they stay under control for extra time. Also the reason Springer hasn’t gotten paid and Altuve got paid at like age 28/29 on a very team friendly contract buying out his arb years heading into (what would help us avoid) free agency.
